I think we've found the ultimate budget costuming fedora.

Of course the federation would be a better choice if you have the extra money, but I think this works perfectly for the price!

Nah this one looks much better IMO. You don't have the tall crown on this one.
But the fed is rabbit felt, and the Christy also comes in rabbit felt :D

The more I think about it, the more I would have to agree. I love this fedora so much better. I personally love the color! From what I see in pics of the Indy fedora, there is a slight reddish tint to it that the federation does not have.

These look exactly like the poets for an insane lower price difference! The only thing is they have the same problem about the tapered crown that the poets have. However, I am actually getting pretty fond of the way the poets look.

Also the fur felt version is roughly the same price including shipping as the new federation!

I pre-ordered the new fed, do you think I should cancel my order and buy the fur felt Christys instead?

The colour is "Sable Brown".
I bought it at themovieshop.com.

It's the wool. :)

This hat looks great. It's more small than the Akubra Federation.

Wow, the wool really gives it that super floppy look of the Raiders hat. I was considering buying a new Fed IV as my first Indy hat, but this is super tempting.

wow...
i love my new Federation, buy i gotta tell ya: if i'd seen this first, i'd probably have another wool hat on my wall instead of a rabbit.
i'm curious; the site says it's $69.11. why .11? why not just make it an even 69 or an even 70? or 69.95. 11 just seems like an odd number to me.
Does the listed price include tax and shipping? that's the only thing i can think of.

I would actually suggest buying the Christy's fedoras from www.HornetsHats.com They are the website that when I emailed Christy's they referred me to in order to buy their fedoras. The Fur Felt version is cheaper by about $70 than themovieshop.com's price.

Currently Hornets does not sell the wool version; However, I asked them if they would be able to order any. I am guessing since their other wool fedoras are around $44 that they would be around that price.

I'll keep you guys updated as to what they say.

That would be great. The only thing holding me back from purcahsing this hat is the price tag. It is a little high for a wool hat but it does look good. If HornetHats can stock the hat for less than I will definately pick one up.

That is, without a doubt, the best looking wool felt hat I've ever seen!
Aeris_Canon wrote:Eh, unfortunately with it being wool, the life expectancy of it staying like that is probably three weeks to a couple of months for real wear.
You may be right AC, but for a budget gear buildup the Christy's Adventurer would go perfectly with a Todd's standard jacket.

I think a lot a Indy fans want an inexpensive SA Fedora, even though they may not be a daily hat wearer. This hat nicely fills that niche. It seems that the Adventurer far surpasses the DP wool in screen accuracy and quality of the wool felt.

I'm curious to see the fur felt Christy's.

I'm guessing it will look just like the wool version (maybe better) above only better quality.

There are some more pics of it at www.themovieshop.com

Yes, it is. Right now, the only place to pruchase the wool felt version is at www.themovieshop.com. But for $30 it is worth it to purchase the fur felt.

I have no experience with this particular hat, but after steaming several wool stetsons, ( the Mallory, remember that one?) I think that is a sure road to disaster. Clean cold water is the only way to go with wool.

As to the durability, I know mine would have lasted longer if I had just let them be and avoided the steam. Even so, my wool felt Mallory was alive and well even after my fur felt stetsons no longer resembled anything that could rightly be considered a hat, let alone an Indy fedora!

What a great time to be an Indy fan! A new Indy movie coming out, down to the millimeter accurate gear in all price ranges, and now a super looking wool fed that darn near anyone can afford! I shudder to think about the hundreds of dollars I dropped for woefully inadequate gear over the years. I could have bought an AB for every season! Where were all these back then? Why did they think people would be happy with over priced, runty feds?

Caparzo, that hat, in my opinion as an obsessive and overspent fan, is that it is not only one of the best wool fedoras, but one of the best Raider fedoras PERIOD!. And the price! I spend more than that at McDonalds in a month.

That is a great looking hat, and you will have to show us what it looks like after a few months of heat dirt, sweat, and general use and abuse. Thanks for posting!
