Indy's hat in this scene
I'm sure this has been discussed somewhere before but I couldn't locate it.
The crease in this scene looks off-center. It looks like it's closer to his left ear than to his right; yet the bow in the ribbon looks correct.
Is this the "Raiders turn" that's been discussed at times?

Well, I was fiddling around with my hat the other day, and this is what I discovered-
The hat in that picture is an example of a Raiders turned hat that is being worn "off-center" in addition to being turned.
A turned, turned hat.
The center pinch is askew but that is how that hat is being worn in this scene.
If you were to take the hat, rotate it to line the front pinch up with his nose, you would still be looking at a hat that was bashed "off-center". The bow would now be resting just foward of the left ear.
From the front pinch aligned with his nose, the hat would be considered straight; however, the hat was bashed off-center, and therefore, "turned."
The "Raiders Turn" as referenced frequently, is the concept of styling the hat off-center before it is worn. A new alignment for where the front pinch will be instead of the natural line that would run down a centered hat.
The WOS is a turned hat that is being worn centered which makes it look "turned" again.
But, basically this is the turn concept for styling an open crowned Indy: one hat is straight, the other is at a diagonal (turned with a new centerpoint for the hat) below.

For those of you who have got an AB with a Raiders Turn, did you ask Steve to dimensionally cut the brim as well? Does the cut take away from the overall look?
I'm on the verge of ordering my first AB and just want to get all the details I can clear as possible! Thanks in advance.
Step 1 (tomorrow): Cut my hair back to normal from its "long, winter look"
Step 2 (also tomorrow): Order the hat!!!!!

No offense but this makes absolutley no sense at all. In the other picture I can at least see it very clearly.Mac wrote:Aeris_Canon wrote:It'll turn up with a similar rendtion by someone else as a "very handy and helpful" (Thanks, "name!") explanation in a separate thread most likely.
Here's one from a while back:
It's from 3K$'s site.

What hat is that? It looks greatAeris_Canon wrote:You're welcome, Dutch. Thanks for noticing. Guess everyone else already knew 120 views later. It'll turn up with a similar rendtion by someone else as a "very handy and helpful" (Thanks, "name!") explanation in a separate thread most likely.
Daniel, it looks to me that the crown disproportion is a secondary effect of being squished a certain way.
Here's a reverse example (though slightly exaggerated from the days of "fudd") of the WOS crown. Nothing to do with the turn, really. I could be wrong.
The photo is out of context and is not meant to explain anything, merely to show a similar drawing in reference to Aeris_Canon's comment regarding "a similar rendition by someone else."Dutch_jones wrote:No offense but this makes absolutley no sense at all.
Maybe this will clarify:
