New Aldens and New Magnoli bag w pic!

Post by morganswift »

A bumper gear day today as my superb Magnoli bag arrived as did my Aldens! :D Almost thought I'd got away with paying the import duty on the boots until the delivery guy asked me for a cheque on the doorstep! I'm really thrilled with them, the colour, the quality and the fact that in the end I went for the real thing! Think I'm just gonna go with brown shoe polish for now (I was thinking of putting them in my display case but that's pushing it! )

Anyway, pic as promised. Tron, you watching? :D

Thanks, guys (well-spotted, Tron!). I know the colour of the boots isn't SA but I really like it, very rich reddish-brown. Anyway, I figure a lot of the SA colour on all the gear is obscured by a thick layer of dirt, dust and sand! :D

Been meaning to ask, and I'm sure it's obvious, but what function does this serve?

When the gas mask was used, there was a string inside the bag that went around the person's body and wrapped around this disc in order to hold the bag squarely in front of the persons chest. The main strap went over the neck, and the string became a belt keeping the rig centered.

when the MKVII and similar bags were originally issued, they came with a length of string attached, meant to be wrapped around the waist to keep the bag from bouncing around. that little knob there was for you to tie the other end of the string to.

i think...

darn, the Knower of Things beats me again, posting his expo just as i'm typing mine.

Aha! I should have known Michaelson would know this - thank you - (and thanks for the second opinion, Darth). I'm surprised my Dad didn't know this actually living as he did through that era as a boy. Shows that Indy wears it pretty 'recklessly'!

UPDATE - Luckily, I've been able to get hold of some pecard's online here in the UK. Just applied a liberal coat to my boots (really nice stuff to work with actually)...

And so now I leave it on for a day or so before buffing it off?

I just got my Magnoli bag yesterday—it's beaudiful! But because I could not bring myself to pay $35-45 on the strap I have a very ghetto temporary one—a brown belt held on by keyrings (the round metal ones).

The best news is that it perfectly fits my travel scrabble set in one compartment and a nalgene bottle in the other!
