Black KOTCS/LC fedora?

Post by Gary2880 »

Hio. I am contemplating a every day fedora. People need to wear hats like they did in the 20s and 30s #### it! so much style.

Anywho. I mostly wear black (not a goth before anyone says it..) just try to remain stylish. So i figure i would like a black fedora with a Kingdom or a Crusade pinch style etc (i dont know many of the terms sorry) I would also like a nice droopey brim and turned sides like this chappys avatar (aeries_canon)

My budget would be around £100/£150... not sure if that is realistic or not??

So the question is who would you recomend to make such a hat if anyone? The only ones i know of at the moment who would possibly do such a thing is peter bros..

Baring in mind im not a very paitent person :D i'd like to hear your suggestions, Thank you.

The Federation is probably your best bet if you dont want to wait for a fedora. They are are built tough as balls and come open crown so you can bash them in whatever style you want. plus they are under $100, I guess that would be about 50 pounds. Hope that helps.

If you don't mind the wait, Fedora can do an Adventurebilt in black for you with an LC/KotCS bash.

Mine:

Given the current exchange rate, that would put it in your ballpark (even paying full fare).

Hello,

Thanks for the replys. So that akubra is worth it yeah? good quality and everything.. ? think i've heard them mentioned on here before. Good that its tough, handy.

I notice there is a federation delux in black also? Would it be worth upgrading to that? what would the benefits be..

A good "close enough"? (ignoring being in black obviously) The ribbon seems a bit squished but appart from that.

edit : thanks for that last reply :) Been reading about some of the AB wait times and i'm afraid as much as i'd like one i just couldn't wait so long. utterly zero paitence, i want stuff to be here before ive bought it..

Well, AB is working a new factory fedora that would fall well within your range and have no wait times. Hopefully within the next few weeks the boys over at AB should have the operation up and ready. It might be worth it to put off on purchasing your fedora just to see if this goes through. It would definately be worth it.

The Federation Deluxe and brown Regular are "under reconstruction" and won't be available for awhile, the original word was mid-April, but then that would be now. The current Regular is still available in black, but does have the "squished" ribbon. The new ones will have a bow that will look much more like an Indy bow. Even the Deluxe is definitely well within your price range.

There is no word yet on whether the AB Factory hat will be available in black.

I think Michaelson said recently that Peter Brothers could still make May 22nd, but whether that still is true I don't know.

It all depends on how patient you can be. There are a lot of very promising choices on the horizon.

Are you dead set on a new hat?

The reason I asked is, I have an Adventurebilt on order and expect it to show up in the next 6 months or so. I wanted a second hat in Grey for everyday wear, but I didn't want to spend very much for it.

I just bought a vintage hat off of ebay and it should show up next week. I spent $40 total shipped. And that is for a fur felt fedora from the late 30's early 40's in great shape.

There are a lot of really nice hats still around from the era that can be had for cheap. Just something to consider.

I ordered a hat from Lee and he quoted me six weeks which is not a bad wait time at all. From what I have seen he is very talented and makes a very durable fedora. I'm sure you can have him get you one in black. Just ask.
