make your own ROTLA pocketflaps in 1-2-3

Post by Holt »

Hi.
I experimented with my destroyed jacket.
SA flaps is hard to find on standard jackets from wested unless you ask for it.

so what did I do when I wanted close SA flaps.

I boiled water and soaked the flaps in the hot water.left it until it was soaked thru.I then started shaping the flaps.....very easy......pull the corners and hold it until it gets the shape you want the shape you want....hold it until its almost dry.....when dryed out they stay in the shape you have made

what do you think?any comments are most welcome :D

wested standard flap on the left and hot water shaped flap on the right

Smukt :D

Will it stay like that after you add Pecard to give something back to the leather after cooking it?

I am very shure it will.I have not tryed it yet.but leather is very shapeable when wet and when it dries out it will remain in the new shape.

like embossing leather bound books or different leather items for that matter
it's kinda done in the same way.they soak it out and lay a carved out pattern on it and when it dries it stays that way.

thanks

Yes, they do stay in that shape. Platon showed us this around a year ago - is that where you found the idea, Holt?. Quite possibly the idea came to you on your own. Either way, it's a brilliant solution to an ongoing problem.

It works well,my pocket flaps were very poor. No shape AT ALL. They now look properly shaped. My leather is goat. You can do it in cold water too.

Your grandfather sounds like a wise man. By the way, are you from Norway or Holland - if you don't mind me asking?

I must agree!

I wish that you would go to work for Peter so that all Wested pockets could look like that. :)

Holt,

Just wondering what you use to hold the shape? Do you use something like tape? or blow-dry it and hold it by hand? I know you can't sit there holding it with your fingers while it dries over three days.

Thanks,

after I pulled down the collar I left it to dry-air dry that is.....
I wanted to experiment if this could be done like this and see if the flap returned to its normal shape without holding it and forcing it to stay in the new shape........It has been a couple dayes after it dryed out..I tried to pull on it and abuse it to see if the shape became more like the original shape again.......and it did not....it stayes like this now...just like my grandfather said...leather is very shapeable when wet and when dry it has a new shape forever :D

but I am sure you can help it dry with a hair dryer.

one thing guys...if you gonna try it I boiled water first took the water of the stove and put the pocket flap in it.I did not boil the flap..

and you can also use cold water as said above.

tha main thing is just soak it...I used boiled water cause I thought it would work better when it's soaked and HOT

Nice work Holt! (I'm sure it's just a matter of time before you start making jackets from scratch! I'd buy a Holt Indy jacket :) )

You guys are being too "technical" for me. It's almost like you're speaking another language!
Hopefully your jacket ordering website will be in English! :P

i did something similar, i had drenched my jacket in the shower with hot water, and thrown it in the dryer some. When it came out it was still damp, and i was able to remold my pockets as well.
