Yep 1 Keppler with black ribbon and 1 Jimmy Pierce with dark brown ribbon ordered last night. Should have that one in about 3 weeks.
Glad I could help and if you look up under where it says Register top of page...click on IndyGear Main and then when there on the left hover over Gear and click on Fedora. Gives a wealth of info there on the movie hats.

Holt, the Adventurer is a nice-looking hat from photos I've seen of it, but the 3 inch brim is a wider spec than any ever quoted for any of the film hats. My opinion is that the Raiders brim varied from 2 7/8 inches in front and back, to 2 3/4 in front and back, and the sides varied from 2 5/8 to 2 1/2 inches. Magnoli's HJ Raiders replica features the 2 7/8 X 2/5/8 measurement, which I believe Magnoli's site says was taken directly off a film-used hat. The crown height for the Raiders hat was 5 1/2 inches open crown, between 5 and 4 1/2 inches when creased.
The measurements of the hats we bought from Mr. Swales varied, so I suppose the film hats may have varied as well, and this does seem to be the case when you look at different scenes in Raiders; the brim widths do seem to vary from scene to scene.
EDIT: Just one more note, if the brim measures 3 inches all around, it does not have the distinctive Indy dimensionally cut brim; if that is the case, you would either have to trim the brim yourself or have it done professionally.

No, when you said "Adventurer" I assumed you meant the David Morgan hat. The ones I see on themovieshop are the officially licensed versions with 2.5 inch brims. I can't find any with 3 inch brims there. I wouldn't recommend the DP, myself; I think a Federation, or perhaps Steve & Marc's upcoming factory made AB would be a better value and look more accurate.Indiana Holt wrote:thanks Jack..you know wich one I mean?themovieshop hat right?fur felt
but is it very noticiable when you have it on?can you see that it is a little bigger in brim width
thanks

Just to make sure we were talking about the same site, I was on themovieshop.com.
Yes, even a little difference in brim width can be quite noticeable.

I think that's a Christie's hat, but I'm not sure; it's strange they don't name the manufacturer. It looks like a nice hat, but as you say, it might be a good idea to get Magnoli's HJ when you can; I own one, and it's a fantastic hat!Indiana Holt wrote:this one.I just have been looking around to get a decent hat.that is very reconizable to a raiders hat.but I am not so very conserned about SA.

Fedora says the 5 1/2 inch crown measurement was taken directly from a screen-used Raiders hat in the Lucasfilm Archive.Aeris_Canon wrote:I don't know that the agreed upon 5 1/2" crown height is more of a speculated fan guess over the years than it is the actual height of the Raiders hat used in most of the film.

There are several good hats to be had for a very reasonable price...Indiana Holt wrote:I just have been looking around to get a decent hat.that is very reconizable to a raiders hat. holt
1 Keppler - I think he just raised the price to $175 for a beaver/rabbit blend. http://www.adventure-supply.com/fedora.htm
2 Camptown - $175 beaver/rabbit blend
http://www.camptownhats.com
3 Jimmy Pierce - $135 pure rabbit
http://www.jimmypiercedesigns.com
It's best to call all 3 of them to reach them. Their #s are either on the websites or you can get them here. There is a time difference to watch out for, Lee Keppler is in CA, JPD in TX and Ken (Camptown) in NJ.
Good luck and have fun on the great hat hunt, getting there is 1/2 the fun..

Yes, there's tons of useful information in the Fedora section. If you are not too confident, though, it would be better to have a pro trim your brim. If you mess up, you can never start over. Try the sticky "Frequently Asked Questions and Links."Indiana Holt wrote:I'll see if I pick one up from themovieshop.com
but if I do.....this is just if.......how do I trim a hat?any links of a tutorial?
thanks

If you plan to wear the hat a lot, I would say it is a big deal. The companies Gabrielle posted are all good, and you should also keep in mind that Steve & Marc may have just discovered the original Raiders block & felt & may be offering it at a very affordable price soon-- so it may pay to wait a little longer, especially if you are most interested in the Raiders hat.Indiana Holt wrote:does anyone picked that hat yet?or would I be the first one?
I am just so concened about that brim beieng a little to big.I am afraid it would look to wide and big on my or anyones head for that matter
or isn't this such a big deal to be concerned about?
thanks

I think the Magnoli hat would be an excellent choice for those uses, plus it's from the original company. But if you are looking to save money, the other hats may be a better value for you. The Christy's I would stay away from as it is still unproven here, but that's just my opinion.Indiana Holt wrote:I am mostly looking for displaying it..and maby take it with me on my egypt trips and such,...but not much more then that..maby once in a while on some fishing trips but I dont use a hat on a daylie basisHolt

The Magnolis are specially treated to resist shrinkage, so it should work out OK for you, but AC is right, better quality felt will probably outlast the HJ.
And I'm not sure, but I don't think anyone mentioned the new revamped Federations which are slated to come out later this month (Hatsdirect.com)! So, you have a lot of choices and good luck in making the right choice for you.
