Hey guys....I got my new Aldens in the day before leaving for Italy and I debated about whether to do anything "to" them or not. In the end, I decided to leave them as they were and let nature take its course.
They're DEFINITELY great boots and -- in my opinion -- worth every cent. For brand new boots and long days of walking, they never made my feet tired. They also looked good enough to wear walking around the city during the day or with a sports coat for dinner in the evenings.
Love 'em! I think they'll be my new "daily" shoes for a while!

Those pics are very cool, Indiana Max. And now they are bigger I can see it's not such a 'Shia as Indy' thing going on. But, heck, there's a lot worse people you could look like! Not that you do look like him...he adds again!
Michaelson, I actually packed them since I decided that they might be a little tiresome on the plane for 12 hours, or if I wanted to nap. So, I wore some loafers instead.
Soon as I got to Rome, though, I wore the Aldens about 80% of the time. I'm wearing them now -- they sure are comfy. Bought some Pecard's a few minutes ago to apply later this week.
See, I didn't even think of that! Not to get off on a tangent but I could go off on a serious rant about how much I hate airport security since 9/11. So, not having to have my boots dissected by an overzealous TSA agent is a good reason to leave them in the suitcase.
Taking off shoes is nearly mandatory for most places I've flown since Federal no jokers took over airport security. The Aldens would go through the X-Ray machine and look just like boots to the scanner. No worries of metal detectors going off. It's just a pain to think about relacing them as your carryon luggage waits for you.
I was going to wear my 405's on the plane this coming October but I never really thought about the metal detectors. I figure I will just pack them in my carry on then after I get through Security I will put them on...Will just put on a pair of sneakers until that point.

They must have had the detectors set low in Phoenix the last time you went through. Go through LAX, and you won't BELIEVE the bells and whistles that go off if you wear your 405's. Then again, I think that equipment is set to high it picks up metal fillings in teeth!
This really made me laugh! You went all the way to Rome, the cradle of civilisation, and took pictures of your boots!
I can relate to the urge, though. When I went to the Middle East in 1966, all of 16 years old, I took pictures of my Bass Weejuns (the Aldens of my set back then) in Rome, at the Parthenon, in the Casbah, on the Pyramids, in Luxor, the Sahara, the Church of the Nativity, Delphi, Haggia Sophia, and, yes, at the temple of the Holy Grail (actually the "Treasury," just outside of Petra, Jordan). It was sort of a pre-conceptual art conceptual art thing, I guess, meant to prove I had really been there.
I'm very glad to see I'm not the only person to take photos of their feet in different locations. One day I'll put together an album of just my feet. Maybe I'll have it buried with me. Won't that give future archaeologists something to think about.

That's cool. Yes, I guess a lot of times when we go on holiday we end up with generic shots of all the sites. So it's nice to personalize the images to prove you were there. Now, if your boots were shiny enough you could catch the reflection of the pyramids etc. in the toe cap. Actually, I think I'm on to something...Hockney, step aside
