Burgandy whip, who'd have thunk it?

Post by Spatterdash »

I almost never post here in the Bullwhip section, so thank you for reading this. I'm more a fedora/clothing guy.

But, years ago, I was as taken with the potential of a real bullwhip as anyone else who counts themselves a true Indy fan. I'd played with a cheap swivel-handle as a teenager, but that was all.
So, I found Mark Allen's wild west company, purchased a whip and some videos and had a fantastic time learning the basics, getting a few tricks down and improving my cutting accuracy. It was a lot of fun, and didn't raise too many eyebrows here in the heart of cattle country.

It's been a long time since I worked with a whip, but I still own the one Mark Allen sold me. I told him I wanted an Indy whip, kangaroo hide, 10 ft. and tan.
He was out of tan, or the reddish tan you get with roo hide. However he had a dark, almost burgundy 10 ft he could sell me at discount, since it wasn't the color I wanted.
I bought it. It was first real whip and remains in a closet somewhere, brushed with Pecard's.

Now I watch as Indy returns to the screen and for the life of me, his whip this time around is the exact same shade as mine.

I get all mushy when I see it now. Pure chance, but I now find myself with a near-exact replica of the upcoming whip. Different maker, sure and subtle differences in the handle from what I can see, but nevertheless... wow.

I figured you guys would understand.

LOL!

Okay, fair enough. I'll post some in the next few days. Digital cam is out the house at the moment, but I'll get on it.
