All,

For those of you who were holding out for the DVD version of "Whip Handling & Maintenance" to be produced (and also talked me into doing a DVD version), it should be here next Thursday, March 27th!

The free fall offer for the first month is still in effect, so I'll extend it for whichever format you choose. Details to be posted in more depth at

Is the DVD region-free? My current DVD-player doesn't play DVDs outside of region 2 and I haven't found a mod-chip yet.

I just called the reproducer and they are Region 1 format only. Apparently I would have to go out of the country to get these formatted into another region. I haven't tried them out on a computer DVD player, but they are supposed to work there, too.

I guess we can all thank the manufacturers of DVD and VHS players for this brilliant marketing scheme.

Well actually it's the big film companies who are responsible of this. They want to get the money from movie theaters before selling a DVD on a new region.

I consider this to be a form of cencorship.

I just placed an order. THEN I read about the region 1 thing.
I have a pioneer DVD player, a DVD player in my computer, an XBOX and a PS2. Will ONE of these play region 1? Anyone know?

Janice,

I may be wrong, but I believe region 1 envelopes all of North America. If not, I think your gaming stations might play it.

It is a great tutorial, by the way. I ran in yesterday for a quick refresher viewing when I was having trouble practicing my underhand crack.

... funny thing is... when I do my underhand crack, then bring it up for a forward crack, more often than not, I also get a crack when I swing it back around my head behind me! I'm now working on taking it from there to a horizontal crack, but that's been hit or miss. I'd love to know what I'm doing to get the reverse crack behind me, but until I grow eyes behind my ears, I'm clueless. It impressed the wife, though.

I figure at least one out of my 4 DVD players should play it. The game systems are the same in Canada as the U.S so that may be my best bet.

Good luck with your whip cracking. If you figure out what you are doing in order to get the other crack behind you, let us all know!

What's wrong with that? It's the same reason that publishers release a new book in hard cover before paper back.

The governments of the countries that get these other regional DVD's are the ones doing the censoring of many of the films you see (or don't see). It takes some time to get a film prepared for international markets and regional coding helps studios keep track of things.

Mike,

Sounds like when you pull the whip behind you after the under hand crack that you are forming another loop in the whip. When you reverse directions to throw the whip forward you pull the loop out and the whip cracks behind you. Don't fix it! There are some of us that practice doing that and still can't get it every time. Keep it up.

Oh, I definitely don't want to fix it! I just wish I could tell what I was doing so I could make sure I keep it up! Chalk it up to a happy coincidence, I guess.

I don't consider it piracy when I use a player I have paid for to watch DVD's I have paid for. And I feel that I have the right to choose the films I want to watch rather than have someone (a film company) choose them for me.

Same goes to 'cracking' audio CD's with intentional errors on them so that a computer with a CD-player can play them.

Luckily censorship of films targeted to mature viewers isn't effective anymore here in Finland so action films and such are distributed in their original form. But many great films are unaccesible because of the region coding.

If anyone wants any of the original files of the DVD covers that are already the correct size, then just pm or e-mail me and I'll be happy to send them to you. For those of you who don't know, DVD jewel cases can be purchased at places such as Electronics Boutique, Babbages, Circuit City, etc. Also, for info on printing out the covers head to http://www.dvdcoverart.com/dvdcoverart/ ... storyiso=7 and for other info on the correct sizes, head to http://dvdcovers.users.btopenworld.com/ Hope you all get some use of the covers, I just made them to streamline Paul's DVD into the rest of my collection. I'm also open to suggestions or ideas for improvements that anyone has. Thanks to Paul for the kind words.
