Another thumbs up for the Tawny.

Once I get a good dark brown hat, I will probably go for a Tawny next. Geez, I'm new here but I'm already getting the desire for multiple hats!

It must be a subliminal message they flash on the screen when you join...

Today I'm shaved. Outback Jack is back! :D
your bash reminds me of the crystal skull bash.

Personally, I think that it's a mistake to try to bash the fed exactly like the HJ of Indiana jones. this hat must be lightly pinched otherwise we lose the right sides effects (not tapered).
It's really a good hat. I wear it every day in Africa, in Nairobi where I live. The only reproach I could do about this hat is the quality of the felt and the brown colour...a little bit sad...but the both are bound.

Here's my 'new' Federation Deluxe. I bought it second hand off the Bazaar (much thanks to Mufflowne!), and am so pleased about it I just want an excuse to post pictures of it somewhere, so this seemed like the ideal thread!

I didn't bash it myself, but since it's mostly for display, and Raiders is my favourite Indy movie, it came with the perfect bash for me anyway!

Unfortunately, the first is a cheesy 'held the camera out to take a picture of myself' shot, and I found it hard to find the right angle. To be honest, I have a long face, and I don't think I suit high crowned hats, but I wanted this mostly for display, and it certainly has the Indy look!

Image

Despite me looking completely dwarfed by it, it fits me perfectly, so I think it's just the angle.

If I understand the term right (and I'm not certain I do, I'm still new at this), it looks tapered in this picture, but really doesn't seem to be when you look dead on, so I think it's just the angle I took it at.

To be honest, I'm so blown away with the quality of the hat I can't believe this thread isn't longer. I'm still having a hard time accepting hats get better than this!

How hard are these to bash for a 1st timer? Is it better to use steam or wet with cold water and let it dry?

Also do you have to trim the brim or leave it as it is when it comes to you?

The bash is a piece of cake...and a lot of fun.
No need for steam at least not to start. I have only dry bashed mine.

Have had my standard Fed for a few years now......fantastic hat. This is the original "dry" bash, haven't changed it a bit......Just wish it had a bit more "swoop" on the sides, other than that, have been nothing but pleased with it. Have just placed an order for a IV Fed, and am looking forward to that!

Here are a couple of shots:
