New Alden 405's from schmidty612's store
Okay, guys, so I saw schmidty612's posts the other day, called him on Tuesday of this week, ordered a new pair of Alden 405's at the price he quoted ($270 plus USPS shipping), and they arrived today, 2 days later. Great shoes, I love them, and I know that this post is worthless without pics, but the shoes look just like they do on everybody's website: not irregulars, no issues.
Long story short: call schmidty612 at 630-232-2317 (Giesche Shoes in Geneva, IL) and order a pair. D widths only right now.
Trust me.

We just have an Aldens representation in a local men's store here in Phoenix. Sorry, but I can't trust them with my shoes sizing. I went in there to get my feet measured before I bought my first pair of Alden 405 boots, just to see if there has been any change in my feet since the last time I bought a pair of dress shoes. They would have had me order a C width, when I actually fit into a AA, which is quite a bit more narrow. I hope everyone else has better luck with their fittings.
I ordered a pair of 405's in AA from the website and they arrived very quickly, Now I'm waiting for a pair of the AF64 which are on special order from Alden's of Carmel. Talk about needing patience for some other pieces of gear. They won't even place my prepaid order until the summer, with delivery expected in the fall.

Glad you guys are giving schmidty a chance to shoe you. Regarding sizing, I wore 11 D for years (I'm 54 years old), and about 12 years ago, I thought my feet suddenly grew because I was having to buy 11 1/2 and 12 in some shoes, and I have some walking athletic shoes (I despise athletic shoes, with all the stupid colors and logos for advertising) in 13. What had actually happened was that shoes being made all around the world caused inconsistencies in sizing. So, long story short: before ordering the Aldens, I had my feet measured in a high-end clothiers, and guess what: 11D. My feet had not changed, but shoe sizing had simply fluctuated among manufacturers. Aldens are high quality, old world shoes, true to size. Get your feet measured by someone who know what he's doing, and order that size.

Wow!! I'm slightly overwhelmed. Thanks guys for the accolades. I am sincerely glad I could get you guys some good boots for less money. Thank YOU for supporting independent business.
Indiana MarkVII, you have some narrow feet my friend. If they measured you a "C" and you got a AA. Holy Smokes! The boots run a little full but they must've REALLY been off.
Thanks Again Guys,
Schmidty

My Pecards leather dressing came today. Ordered Thursday, arrived Monday. That was slower than the boots from schmidty. $6 for the Pecards; $7 to ship. Aint life funny. I just rubbed them down, set aside to absorb. Reports to follow. What a bunch of pitiful, obsessed dudes we are!

UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!
My 405's arrived today from schmidty612. I ordered them on Thursday evening, he shipped Friday USPS, and they arrived today. I had allowed that I wear an 8 1/2D or 9D. Since all he had was the 9D, he shipped them, and they fit perfectly. I almost hate to wear them, because then they won't be new anymore.
It is really nice to order something and not have to wait 12 weeks for it. Thanks again to schmidty612.

Schmidty....
You 'da man. I've got you on my speed dial. never know when you need some help, especially against those SA nazis. LOL.
Seriously, I'm considering another pair of the Aldens for backup, since I'm sure your price will have to increase over time. Save me a pair of 9D.
Thanks you, my friend

Randoman,
Our price will only go up when Alden decides to raise their wholesale price again. But we will still do our best to keep them lower than everybody else. We actually got another 9D in today, but that's a regularly stocked size so no need to bite the bullet yet. You haven't even started to break in the pair you've got I bet. They're comfy from the get go but take a while before they are...AAAAHHHHH.
Regards,
Schmidty

Trust me, they look better after being naturally broken-in. When I first received mine 10 years ago, the leather looked really stiff and smooth, and I immediately thought: "They don't look like Indy's boots!" Time and use have brought about the desired effect. These Aldens could have been worn by Indy in Last Crusade.I almost hate to wear them, because then they won't be new anymore
Are these boots orthopedic, meaning specially designed with the wellness of the feet in mind? I've been wearing/breaking mine in for a week now, and last night I noticed something: even though my 405's and I are still in the new/break-in period, last night my feet felt as if they had just been masssaged when I removed the boots, and I know what that feels like (my wife used to do it for me). Even after wearing these still very new shoes all day, my feet felt very relaxed and totally painless.
Does anyone know for sure if they are indeed orthopedic?

Picker,
They are orthopedic. They are designed for people with foot issues. They are stiff, which offers support, they lace, which offers support, if you feel around the back of the heel, they have extended heel counters, which provide ankle support, and if you notice the curvature of the heels, that is also for stability. Your feet should not get tired in these.

Are you planning on offering any other widths? I need a 9C. My Aldens are barely broken in (about a year old), but you never know when you might need another pair after being drug behind a truck or being chased through the jungle by your friendly neighborhood Hovitos... I didn't get them from Schmidty, but here are my Aldens and my Red Wings for comparison...

Mr. Z
I originally got the paste with my David Morgan Bullwhip. It was recommended that a coat be put on. Since then, I've put it on all 4 pair of boots, my Wested Jacket (it gets a coat every fall), my wife's hiking boots, her jacket, it's good on toast (just kidding). I strongly suggest it. And yes, I can get laces too. They aren't the Alden lace because they overcharge for them. But they are a brown flat 45" dress lace that I use in my boots. They are they SAME THING. They are like 2 bucks a pair. I usually throw a pair in with each pair of boots.

Hey, I just got my pair from Schmidty's store - I've never owned a pair of Aldens (or indeed, any high quality shoe) before, so I've nothing to compare them to, but as far as I'm concerned, they're fantastic. They fit me far better than any other shoe I've worn, since they actually have the correct sizing and at $278 (shipping included) they can't be beat.

I know what you mean! You really have to handle and wear a pair of these to truly "get it"!Mulceber wrote:Hey, I just got my pair from Schmidty's store - I've never owned a pair of Aldens (or indeed, any high quality shoe) before, so I've nothing to compare them to, but as far as I'm concerned, they're fantastic.
