A Tale of Two Strains-

Post by Texas Raider »

A couple months ago I ordered one of Joe Strains KotCS version whips, the one that he offered up for the movie. Ordered a nine footer. First ordered with darker knots, but didn't look so good, so he put the same color (saddle tan) knots on it, Joe's a great guy! He's patient with me and I'm the pickiest WORST customer ;-). Anyhoo, when it arrived, I was totally blown away with his work. Like I mentioned in another thread, I've never seen any whip so smooth, glass-like, so tightly braided and almost cyborg looking, it's AWESOME! The dude has got to have the strongest hands on the planet!

Shortly after I received it, I ordered his copy of the Jacka movie whip after seeing pics of his. My plan was to sell this first one I got, and buy the Jacka copy,,but as I told Joe,,I just couldn't sell it! I've wanted a Strain for soooooo long, and when I had it in my hands, it was just too beautiful to sell

To me, the first whip (his movie offer) looks Temple of Doom/Last Crusade style, which is another reason I decided to keep it.

This last week, I received the second Strain! His Jacka movie whip copy. Once again- BLOWN AWAY!! If anyone is on the fence about getting a Strain, DO IT! You will be glad you did and you WILL NOT be disappointed in any way! The color of the Jacka copy is PERFECT! Darker knots, smooth plaiting, excellent knot shape, BEAUTIFUL!

I have a Bernado "Raiders" Schematic-exacta-mundo on the way, so I'll have a whip from basically all the flicks
Bernardo-Raiders
Strain-Temple/Crusade
Strain- KotCS

I'm refraining (and it's very difficult! :? ) from cracking these until the Bernardo whip comes, so I can do comparison pics of all three in brand new condition.

I shouldn't need anymore 'roo whips after these (yea, right) ;-)

Without further adoooo-

Does your Jacka copy have a Jacka transition?

AWESOME!! I'm a proud Joe Strain whip owner. I wish they would have gone with his version over the Jacka version. I just cant seem to like the jacka version.

You guys dont understand. The whip is everything to me. I watched the indy movies when I was a kid for the whip....Over and over again....Just for the whip. It's all relevant now but you get the picture  This new whip stands out like a sore thumb. He might as well be holding an icecream cone :P The morgan style will always be MY fav whip style :D

Great looking pair of bullwhips TR, Joe Strain did a fantastic job with both of them. You got your moneys worth!

Hollywood, As I understand it. He makes the Jacka copy of this whip pretty much like he makes his own Indiana Jones style bullwhip, so it doesn’t have the long heavily reinforced transition like Terry does.

 hmmmm you know, I think I understand  Honestly as much as I like both Terry Jacka and Joe Strain as well as both their bullwhips, I would preferred for the film to have stuck with David Morgan’s bullwhips.
