Quality whip wait times

Post by Hunter Jones »

The one thing I need to complete my gear is a whip. I have looked at getting a cheap one off ebay in time for the film, but I just can't bring myself to waste the money on something that will just be discarded at a future date.

My question is does anyone have any idea how long it might take to receive the whip once I place the order from various suppliers? Ideally I'm looking to receive it before the 22nd of May.

Cheers

Hello. My experience is that the only reliable information you get about a whip maker is direct from the horse's mouth.

If you look through old, posts, you will see loads of positive stuff about various makers. I would shortlist two or three, then make personal contact in order get their delivery times and make sure that they can supply what you want. Once you've got that info, you're in a good position to confidently place an order.

Of course, there are one or two vendors out there, as well, who sell whips from stock. Same advice applies, though. Always make direct contact to check that their website is not out of date; and any whip listed can be delivered by the date you require. Inventories change, and websites don't always get updated very promptly.

Bernardo del Carpio told me his current wait time is six weeks - I placed the order...that was two to three weeks ago so I'm almost there...

Needing a whip by a certian date is one of the Advantages of Western Stage Props. They carry whips by good makers, thier prices are a little high, but they have a lot of whips in stock.

Gus at www.purewhips.com typically has about a one- to two-week turnaround on his whips. It'll vary depending on how many he's working on at the time. Check out his site and email him. He's pretty good about returning emails. I have one of his whips, and I love it. Very reasonably priced, too.

Oops. I just saw this post: viewtopic.php?t=27387
I guess Gus has been getting busier these days. :) I still think he'd be able to get a whip out well before May 22.

Hello Karol. You make some nice looking stuff. Just last week, I had an enquiry from a Polish lady who wanted to buy some stuff from me while she was in London, because she didn't know of any Polish whip makers. If I had known, I would have pointed her in your direction! Next time :)

I just bought a second hand Caicedo from Louie Foxx. I think it will serve very well for quite some time.

HI I can have the whips out by May 22nd. I had a few sleepless nights whip making but it's cool to work on them. :)
