Original WWII Mark VI bag from What Price Glory—why so cheap

Post by Ozraptor »

As the title of the thread intimates, What Price Glory is selling the Mark VI (with webbing strap) for ~$25! Why so cheap, esp considering the crazy price one of these bags recently climbed to on ebay? It was well over $150 last time I checked.

They reckon the bags are the genuine article, in good condition! Any ideas?

The Mark VI is cheap because it was the Mark VII that was used in the movies (though some Mark VI's may have found their way into the movies).

as for the WPG vs eBay price difference, i'd venture to guess that it' because the poor sap who bid over a hundred dollars for the bag didn't know about WPG. I used to ponder the various indy bags on ebay all the time. Once i found more reliable sources like WPG, Magnoli clothiers, etc, i never looked for them on ebay again.
Most of the bags on ebay start around $25-40 and get bid up to crazy prices.
These bags were mass produced by the millions, and since most gearheads go for the MKVII, the stint double is going to be more plentiful, resulting in low prices. Even if they were more rare, we're talking about a canvas bag. It's not like other pieces of war memorabilia like medals, weapons, etc, which are more highly sought after.

As Mark correctly said, it's certain that some MkVI bags were used in the movies. The bag that I purchased from Noel Howard long ago before he retired was a Mk VI which was used by a stuntman. The bag that I have has still the owner's name written on it!
Everything is the same except the buttons and the number of drains.

Mine was £12 or approx $24 usd, the second one was £20, but not as good a quality.
Endicotts has some good Mark VII and they look pretty good, no real distressing needed on them, the Mark VI I got was beautiful its my EDC. That was only £7 if I remember correctly.
