What is "raw edge brim"?

Post by TonyRush »

I'm getting ready to order my hat and see some terms on the AdventureBilt ordering page that I require clarification on:

Pure beaver felt with raw edge brim: 399,00 EURO
Pure beaver felt with bound edge brim: 449,00 EURO

What is the difference between the raw and bound edges? Which is screen accurate?

Thanks in advance,

Tony

P.S. Anyone know what the wait times are now?

This is a bound-edge brim:

Notice how the edge of the brim has a piece of cloth sewn onto it?

That's a raw-edged brim: there's no cloth, no thread, no nothing. The felt just ends. As you can see from the pic, that's the one that's accurate to the Indy fedora. :junior: -M

Ps. just in case you didn't realize, that's the Adventurebilt DELUXE page whose prices you're quoting. The normal AB is much less expensive.

Thanks very much!

So, what's the difference between the Deluxe AB and the regular AB?

Thanks again!

Well apart from the fact that the AB deluxe is approximately twice the price of a regular AB (here's the website for the normal AB: http://www.adventurebilthats.com/ ), the AB deluxe is made out of the absolute best materials available in the business with the best raiders block in the business, whereas the normal AB is made out of superior (but not the absolute best) materials, and also the best raiders block in the business. Both are custom made hats made out of 100% beaver fur and both are phenomenal hats. The AB deluxe is just more expensive and is made out of even better materials. :junior: -M

I wonder if a customer ordering a Deluxe hat could expect a faster turn-around than the regular AB.

While I'm sure that's not something that they'd want to advertise, but, if I knew that -- in addition to getting the best hat they make -- I'd be less likely to have to wait 6-12+ months to get my order....I'd gladly pay the difference.

Yep, generally I think the Deluxe has a shorter wait time. :junior: -M
