First pics of my gear!

Well, I've been nosing around this forum for a while now and I've thrown my two cents into a few threads so I figured it's about time I showed you all my stuff. Let me first tell you that all of my gear is considered "close-enough" and the first piece of real gear I will have is the Magnoli satchel I plan to order soon and the Todd's strap I bought from the Cairo Bazaar. This is of course unless you consider a fur felt DP "real gear". Anyway, without further delay, I give you...

This first item is my "Chaps hipster jacket" that I got from overstock.com for about $150. This of course was bought just months before there was a standard Todd's for the same price...$#%#@!

This is my Dorf that I got for x-mas from my brother.

This is my shirt that I found at a Thrift store in tennessee for $2. I bought some RIT dye, followed the instructions from this site, and then took the shirt to a tailor for $10 to have the sides taken in a bit to get that vintage Indy look. I think it turned out great.

These are my trousers. They came from (you guessed it) a thrift store for around $1.50. They don't have the pocket flaps but the color's pretty close and they fit me PERFECTLY.

This is my web belt. It was $4 from an Army/Navy store and I used some leftover dye to make it a light brown.

Here's my gun belt. The buckle isn't right but it's close and it was only $5.

This is my gun and holster. The gun is just a toy that I got for $2 at a flea market. I'm going to cut about 1 1/2" from the end and maybe age it with some silver paint. The holster is homemade from an old golf bag that I slaughtered in the name of Indy gear. I like it, I think it has personality.

This is my trusty bullwhip. It's an 8' 4 plait saddle tan and was $30 from a guy named jrzjoe on ebay. He's got a ton of whips and he'll basically do whatever you want (color, length, plait) and for cheap too. Oh, and the whip holder came from the sacrificial golf bag too.

Here's my boots. I love my boots. They're vintage Dr. Martens made in England and I got them for $8 at a vintage clothing/thrift store. They're super beat-up and they just have an Indy feel to them. Really, the only thing missing is the moc-toe.

I actually loved my boots so much that I went out and bought a brand new pair of Dr. Martens just like them.

Last but not least, my bag. It's a map bag that I got for $18 from an Army/Police supply store. I did some work on it, primarily sewing ring holders to the sides (they were originally on the back) and removing these weird flaps on the inside of the bag flap itself. The strap came from a purse that I bought at a thrift store for like 75 cents and it just happened to be about 65 inches. The buckle came with the purse too, though it was gold. I sanded it down to remove the gold and age it a bit.

Well, that's my story and that's my gear. I love all of it and I don't mind having close enoughs. At least I'll look good May 22! Thanks for reading this, I know it was long!

Wow, thank you all so much for the positive feedback. It was cheap, but it wasn't easy. I must have visited 20 thrift stores over the course of about 6 months and spent more than a few hours sewing and cutting. On top of spending hours researching this site and reading the forums. But obviously it was worth it. Thanks again guys!

Oh, and IndyWannaBee, the flea market was just a small time local thing near where I live, filled mostly with redneck memorabilia and junk. The gun came wire-tied to a generic cardboard back (which I discarded) that said "cowboy gun" or something. I looked on the gun, and the only writing is "made in China". Sorry! Maybe try an year-round online halloween shop or something, I know I browsed those a fair share of times.

Very industrious, definitely didn't take the lazy way out in your quest. Heck, they oughta sticky this for awhile. Sometimes we forget to visit places like local army surplus stores, etc. where some of these items can also be found.

I really can't tell you enough how much I appreciate all of your feedback. It means alot to really feel like a part of a place I visit so frequently! (really, I spend like 95% of my time here...) And truth be told, it can be hard to read all the forums and see people buying 3 each of Aldens, AB's and Westeds, but you've all made me especially proud of my stuff. Thanks everyone! I'll post pics of my Magnoli bag and Todd's strap as soon as I get them both.

You nailed the Close Enough gear! Well done! Perserverence counts and really paid off for you.

My first whip was one of those four plaiters - I got it to crack bebore I even knew what a popper was and that I should have one. It actually cost me a shirt and some skin, but that's another story.

You really pulled it all off, man. I love to see people's Close Enough gear. That's the spirit right there.

...But, man, you hold your whip like Jerry does (though somehow he cracks it expertly). It's so much easier if you hold the Turk's Head knot in your palm rather than down the middle of the handle.

Great gear! That's the best looking dp i've ever seen. I wouldn't change it for a while.
