My "Raiders" Dorf

Post by mooniteman »

Hey Guys

I've had this Dorf from Disney for years & I've never been terribly satisfied with it -

SO since I cant afford an Akubra anytime soon I did everything to this little b*stard to make it look as "Raidersy" as possible

I trimmed the brim - I re blocked it like crazy - dyed it and beat the living daylights out of it! - so after about ten years these are the results - I honostly believe this is the best I'll ever get one of these to look

Heres some pics:

Looks like your photos are flipped.....unless you actually HAVE an Indy poster printed in reverse on the wall behind you...

That hat looks like it's been a constant companion. That's what we like to see around here! :D

yes thats true but you can fix that, in options you have to choose to mirror all images.
then the final picture will be in the correct way. ;)

I've never been a big fan of dorfmans but mooniteman, you definitely give that some style. It looks like a lot of the hats in the YIJC (I mean that in a good way). Great hat, thanks for sharing. :junior: -M

I personally like the Dorfman hats. Not so much becuase they are quality hats (which they no longer are worth the money) but becuase of the nostalgic value they have. My first Indy fedora was a Dorfman that my grandparents bought for me at MGM Studios at Disney World. I would buy a new one every time I would go, whichwas often because Miami is only a three and one half hour drive away. I found one not too long ago which I gave to my three year old brother who is all about Indy and he loves it. Your Dorfman does look awsome. I like the bash you have put on it. Very Raiders.

I also have a soft spot in my heart for the old wool felt Stetson Indy Fedoras from back in 1984. That was MY first Indy fedora. Still have her too. Not in too good a shape anymore, but I'll never part with it.

Even if you retire that DP, still give it a place of honor in your fedora stable. :)

Thanks Giben - and the reason its so thick is it's wool so yeah its a beast, but then again I have no idea how much a higher end hat would be thickness-wise

Cheers

It does look really good for a wool Dorfman. I have one stuffed in the closet and couldn't imagine getting it to look that good. So, you had no ill effects to the shape when you rebashed it? I resisted trying to on mine after hearing it would taper then shrink to a kid size. Yeah, don't dishonor a first love!

I didn't really notice much taper - but there appears to be a little - it seems a natural part of the way the hat was made

And I say just go for it - take that thing out of the closet soak it in some hot water and shape the heck out of it!

Sure this aint the proper way to bash a hat - but they're great hats to practice on! Besides why keep a hat that's only okay in your closet when you could mess around and have one you love on your head!
