Black Goatskin Expedition

Post by Rundquist »

Here’s my jacket that I got last week. Sorry, these are fuzzy. I’ll post outdoor pics of the jacket details later. At least you get an idea of how the jacket drapes and looks while being worn. This is a standard off the rack Expedition in a long size. The only difference is that I had the sleeves shortened. Cheers

I really dig that black. Now, you sold the russet colored one, right? Was that one horsehide like the Authentic HH A-2? That was a great Indy Jacket too.

The russet was goat and yes it is gone. The replacement is a month or two off. It will be a bit different though. I'll of course post it when I get it. Cheers

Sweet. My Expo, the one I ordered when we drove out there for the 2003 QM Summit, is still my fav. It's just barely starting to get some wear marks on her. Not bad for being 4 1/2, almost 5 years old. :) This jacket's easily going to outlive me.

hey guys- you peaked my interest when you said 'russet' and 'goat'. Is the Expedition available in a goatskin russet colored brown?

From what I understand, there is going to be an offering in the next few months that will be available on a non-returnable basis. Cheers

Man, that is one yummy jacket. Love the realness of it. You can actually wear that sucker into #### and come back smiling.

I really want to buy one but I am going to be hit with an extra $150 tax just to bring it into Aust.

Cheers - CM

I’ve had two. Here’s the original.

Here’s the second one.

I got rid of both for size reasons. The third will be cooler than both I think. Cheers

Funny, it looks exactly like my black Wested TOD. Looks great! Is the goat hide fairly thick or is it lighter like the new Wested goat? My Wested goat is fairly heavy, about twice the weight as my current goat jacket.

Cheers!

After looking at these pics I've decided that I went a little too short in the sleeves. There's a difference of an inch and a half between a regular and a long size in the sleeves. Since I'm 5'11, I'm right in between a regular and a long in Gibson & Barnes sizing. I really need about 3/4 inch more in the sleeve. If I can't make some kind of a fix, I will be selling the jacket, if anyone is interested. I'll know in a few days. Cheers

Do you know if they'll be produced by the order or off the rack? Olive stitching? Hope, hope!

Your russet with olive stitching is still my favorite non standard Indy jacket I've seen.

It will definitely be a by the order type of deal from what I'm told. Since it is non-returnable (as I mentioned above), I’m pretty sure that you can get olive stitching. The trick is just to be sure of your size. (I’m dealing with the sleeve issue on the black jacket right now. It was totally my fault. I assumed. I should have measured myself. Anyway I think that Gibson & Barnes is going to be able to fix my jacket up anyway).

One way to check your size is to have them send you a jacket and then send it back. Better safe than sorry on a non-refundable item. Cheers

PS –The russet skin that they are getting is the snazziest skin I’ve seen yet.

Does this mean they're relaxing their policies on custom orders? Other hides?

I couldn't really say. All I know is that if you get something that is non standard, it's non-returnable. I couldn't tell you as far as what they will and will not do beyond the russet jacket being available, as a non-returnable item. Cheers

Here’s an update. At 5’11 I fall right in-between a regular & tall size according to the G&B website. Since I like a longer jacket, I opted for a long size in the body with regular sleeves. It turned out that I needed a little extra length in the sleeves. The difference between a long and a regular size in the sleeves is 1 and a ½ inches. I needed about half that, ¾ inch. That’s what G&B was able to squeeze out of the extra folded over cuff. They had to give me new sleeve linings because there wasn’t enough material. Anyway, I’m extremely happy with the way it turned out. Cheers

I'll give Wested one thing. From a "looks" point of view, they've come a long way. Their jackets have never looked better than their recent ones. The only thing that still bugs me about the looks of their newest jackets it that funny little curvy "lip" at the top of the storm-flap where the storm-flap meets the collar stand. Of course looks aren't everything. Durability is a totally different matter completely. Cheers

PS- Holt's last Wested is a perfect example of that curvy storm-flap "lip".

http://indygear.com/cow/viewtopic.php?t=27110

Holt's jacket is new and maybe the storm flap can be trained to lie flat. But that's always bugged me.

My first Wested jacket had that. It bugged me too, but it relaxed after awhile. I wondered why it stuch up like that, and then found that if I zipped up the jacket, that little flap tuck under the collar and helped keep the storm flap closed in the absense of snaps. Once I found a function for it, I was fine.

Rundquist ... what size is this black expedition? I think you mentioned the ones you got rid of for sizing issues were 46, right? Is this black one a 44?
