quick pocket question

Post by Holt »

Hi.does anybody know why Peter decided to make the pockets bigger and the standard cut?
my Rotla 80's cut has much smaller pockets..
I am not such a jacket expert(yet  ) but I guess the smaller pockets are SA right?...were does the larger pockets come from??

hope somebody can clear this out for me

thanks

well if i remember right the jacket pocket size does change between movies so it could have carried over from that. or it could be a matter of making them more functional or sized more to proportion with the jacket. i never really liked the smaller pockets that well, i like to actually be able to have room to stick stuff in my pockets. not to say that i like the look of some of the HUGE pockets some of the jackets have got, don't need a pocket i can stash the entire ark in

There were complains by goalkeepers who couldn't fit their hands into the pockets.

If you notice the pocket before he enters the temple, it's almost square.
If you watch the 'making of' at the Raven Bar you will notice they are rectangular (then again it maybe the different film/camera they are using).

Also, the stitching of the pocket flap at the temple and wing fight scene is different...

The main thing is to have the pockets in proportion to the jacket!

If you wear a 38 short, the pockets that would look good on a 48 long will be way too big...

The pockets were made bigger for LC, to fit the grail diary. I seem to recall info on this forum a while back stating the larger LC pockets were pretty standard for all jackets Wested was making at the time. A number of people began asking for smaller pockets on their ROTLA jackets, myself included, and got them. I believe the smaller pockets are now standard on the 80's cut and on the special offer Raiders jacket.

Disclaimer: All information in the above post is from my personal (sometimes shaky) recollection from reading this forum the last few years :D

And I seem to recall that the inside pocket was larger for that purpose.

And of course Indy kept the diary in his inside pocket.

I keep hearing this line in regards to the jacket pocket sizes... but the diary is clearly shown being removed from his outer pocket in Berlin. :-k

Kind regards,

Since you make diaries Magnoli you know that the diary can fit in the Raiders jacket pocket as well. LC did not have larger pockets. Only larger pocket flaps.

Could be very well be, Magnoli. I thought I'd watched for that before and only remember when Indy removed it at gunpoint. I'll gladly concede the point and the whole larger pocket matter would make sense.

I don't have the DVD handy right now, but are you talking about when he's on the Zeppelin? Because he was wearing the Nazi uniform at the book burning and the overcoat at the airport.

Doh! It was in Brunwald Castle...

The diary can definitely fit into an LC pocket. Whether it can fit into a Raiders pocket... I think they'd be a little too small.

Kind regards,
Magnoli

Uh, ok. :-s

Well, based on this photo, hand puppets will fit in the Wested LC jacket pockets too.....is that your point?

Filmwise, I seem to remember reading somewhere that there was (at least) one jacket with a bigger pocket for the close up shot, maybe this is the one Peter recalls. But of course there were various sizes of diary too.

The pockets were made bigger on jackets that people ordered over the years because people with larger hands were wanting to use the handwarmers without getting stuck or tearing them.

Magnoli, I think I had it reversed. I think Ilsa pulled the diary out of the outside pocket, which is why we all wondered why the inside pocket was enlarged. My bad.

The LC jacket appears to have a much larger pocket flap. But the pocket does not appear to be larger than other jacket's pockets. I'd love for Peter to issue his LC standard with the right pockets. While other SA details don't interest me much, it's those pockets that really stick out to me. If those flaps were just 2 cm's broader, he'd be a lot closer. When I got my LC jacket and saw those inadequate pockets and then looked at my certificate of authenticity, I became a little sad. It's a good goatskin jacket but it isn't just like the movie one as advertised.

Look forward to seeing your Magnoli jacket. Let us know about stitching and general quality too.
