my new wested standard goat!!!!!!

Post by Holt »

Hi gang!

look what came in the mail today.I could not be happier with it.

is's a standard 44 goat with a custom job on it.
I asked if Peter could narrow down the action pleats to make them as they are on the film jacket.and he did! they are spot on like my special offer rotla jacket.

this jacket is so comfy to wear.
since I destroyd my other lamb 44 I had to get another 44 jacket, that was the best fit for me

it has so much more movement room in the jacket then the rotla special 80's cut...wich I like.and the jacket has more baggier sleeves like it has in the movie, wich I also like very much!!

the leather is very heavy and it almost feel like a chain mail compared to the rotla 80's cut jacket, but I like it that it feels thicker, makes it feel like it's built for lasting.the drape is very good and the leather is VERY soft, like Peter said to me.and it comes with rectangular sliders.

but the smell is somehting different!!.....I was hoping to get that new nice and lovley lamb leather smell, but no....the goat leather smells like a yak or something

but in the end the jacket feels really nice to have on and it fits me perfectly...only one thing left to do...and that is to break in that sucker!!

Now...on to the pictures..(sorry for my dumb smile in the first photo....I was just so happy getting the jacket :D )

and sorry for the poor quality in the pictures,my other camera is still in for service!

I LOVE that jacket!  Congrats! Peter did a great job! That's a standard? Well that looks GREAT to me! I don't know what all the hoopla is over the 80's cut and the standard! It looks a bit longer at the base than most, including mine! I would really like to have mine done like yours! You're right about the sleeves, they look GOOD that baggy!

Dang! You're making me want to call Peter up and get one done. So you got the standard with your own specs? Did you just call him or e-mail him? You're giving me ideas!

Well, once again, GREAT JACKET!!!

Thak you!!! :D
yes this is just a standard off the rack jacket with a custom job on it

I talked to peter about a half an hour on the phone talking about anything low and high Indy related...and then it suddenly came to me why cant I just get a standard with a custom job on it?...he said ok! that's allright mate! he wrote down my specs and voila!

and the jacket has the authentic brown color...some say it is a lighter shade when authentic brown is tanned on a goat...maby it was before?but not on this baby...I compared it to my rotla special and the color was dead on to the lamb authentic brown

Well it looks really good, and you pull it off well. I've been meaning to get another Wested, and I need to remember to do what you did. I want mine a little longer and the sleeves a little more baggy, as well.

ok yeah :D but remeber I ONLY had one custom job on it..and that was the pleats.the lenght of the jacket and the width of the sleeves was not touched by my specs.they were standard to the 44 cut.I guess I was lucky getting those specs on my jacket, for a standard jacket I mean...

Holt, that jacket looks great! After seeing that, I think I'm going to stick with my original decision to purchase a standard cut. But now I have to decide between the new goat and horsehide! :-k

Holt...
Your new jacket looks great. I'm glad for you, but, you're right, the goat smells like a goat, not a lamb. Am I wrong?

I don't know where to go with Wested. My first jacket was a Wested Standard. Looks good, smells good, but doesn't fiy good. Too loose. So I buy a Special ROTLA. It feels better, but the armholes are WAY too tight.

I've tried other jackets and am thinking about trying a Todd's Custom or a G&B Lamb. Don't know

Many thanks

Looks terrific! I always thought the Raiders jacket looked more relaxed than close fitting. Can't wait to see what it looks like after a few years of wear and tear.

yep! it smells like a goat...and getting that smell so close to my nose when inhaling makes me a little unwell..so I have given it a deep soak and washed it.I will apply some pecards after it dryes up..hopefully it will take a little of the smell away?

and to all of you who have commented on my new jacket.Thank you!! :D

Interesting... As I wrote in this thread in the gear care/distressing forum, I soaked my goat jacket in cold water and it shrank (it took about three days for it to dry, so I didn't find out straight away). It's still usable, but if I could have undone the soaking, I definitely would.

Did yours come out fine?

As I’ve mentioned ad nauseum, yoke length and pleat depth are my two pet peeves and the litmus test for an Indy jacket as far as I’m concerned. From the pics it looks like you came out a winner on both fronts. Congrats!

New leather smell always goes away after a few months, at the most. I would advise against washing a jacket if all you're trying to achieve is getting rid of the new smell. Cheers

I've machine washed a couple of jackets at 60°C, they didn't shrink.

But I don't suggest you do!

thanks guys...

No I dont think I will shrink the jacket...but there is only one thing that doesn't show in the pictures..

the sleeves are a tad to long.the sleeves ends right on my knuckle under my thumb nail.

I was thinking of trying to shrink the sleeves a bit.

Bryan-how is your goat now after two years of wearing?the leather in my goat is a little stiff in the body..the sleeves a buttery soft though...

I hope it will break down after some wearing..

but overall I am very happy with my new jacket....

I was trying to talk you guys out of the 80s cut long time now.
You finally seem to be coming around.

I think the standard cut with mods is the best choice.

I guess it also depends on whether your torso is shaped 'standard' or '80's'. I'm sure some people people look better in one than the other. Personally, I'm like you. I look much better in the standard fit because I'm not slim by any definition.

Ok Platon...forgive if I am wrong...

but you say above that the raider jacket was a standard cut,but wasn't it cut by fords specs and in the style that we today call the 80's cut?

Actually, mine still smells fairly strongly after 5-6 years. So does my 2 year old bike jacket, even after washing it. I like the smell and while it isn't as strong as when it was new, it is still very obvious. I can smell my old Wested right now and I'm sitting 4 metres away from it.

Excellent question.
I believe the standard cut and 80s fit are the two extremes. Chris King proudly found (Peter told him) that the pattern he was using back then was scaled up a little bit to fit the modern man and that the pattern he used on Ford in the 80s was a slimmer cut. (Funny I remember the 80s jackets were fuller cut).

Peter measured Ford. But do you think he made the jacket tight on his body? Go to any tailor that makes custom suits and have him measure you to make a jacket. I am sure he will add 2-3 inches to your chest circumference.

Peter states that on his website as well.
Chest: Measuring under the arms round the chest (loose fit).
http://www.indyjacket.co.uk/frsizing.html

I believe that the jacket Ford wore was something between today's standard cut and 80s fit.

See I don't say it was standard cut, but I say for sure it was not 80s fit. It just was not what that mannequin in the above photo wears.

At least this is what the photogrpaphic evidence tells us. Some people handled screen used jackets and may say otherwise, but in the end of the day it does not matter how the jacket really was but how it appears on screen. Hence the term "SCREEN" accurate.

I have figured out what are the differences of the modern standard cut and the jacket Ford wore and I will use this information on my next order.

For the time being, my advice to those who want a good looking jacket , not too loose standard cut and not too tight 80s fit, would be to pay Peter a visit, and have him measure them for a custom jacket.

But of course, you don't have to believe anything I say above, that's just my personal opinion, my assumptions.
