Ribbon Width:: Updated

Post by theinterchange »

I just got my Todd's replacement ribbon today [along with my jar of dirt.. err Fuller's] And it looks overwhelmingly narrow. I measured it at just shy of 1 1/2 inch wide. Is this even remotely screen accurate? It seems even narrower than the existing ribbon on my hat.

I'm about to post pics of it. I bought CitRon's DP fur felt.. gassssp! Yes, it's a pretty nice hat. Take off the existing light ribbon and stupid IJ pin and it's really nice.

It really just looks narrower.. maybe because it's not on the hat.

What, you gotta problem with that image? :-k

The tutorial is pretty much the same for any re-ribbin job. Just modify how you make the center pinch for the bow.

Most bows just have a basic pinch in the middle to form the fold.

And the bow loop you can do many different ways as well.
You juts need the patience to do all the little folding!

It may be that particular run of ribbon, or it may be sized in lignes.

You can buy the 1 1/2 inch ribbon from folks like Schiff, but not in a dark, dark brown. I don't think they use the ligne system of measuring.

I could be wrong on this as it has been awhile since I bought new ribbon, other than what I get from Marc. But I have a roll of black Schiff ribbon that I pulled off some to put on a gray hat today. I measured it and it was dead on 1 1/2 inches. It said so on the end of the roll too. Much of my vintage stock comes in the ligne sizing. Seems like in this sizing, you never hit an exact 1 1/2 inches. Always above it, or below it. Fedora
