Can't wait to see it IB!

Does anyone else have any updates on how their Camptowns are doing or looking these days? Has anyone tested theirs out in the inclimate weather we've had recently? Any tapering or such things?

Cheers!

Is Camptown still around? I would like to buy one, but they haven't returned my e-mail?

OK. Here are some pics. Didn't have a chance to get my girlfriend to take the photos in better conditions so I had to take them myself. Not the best, but considering they are photos taken in the bathroom mirror and then reversed, cropped, and resized, I guess they are not too bad!

Hope to get some real good shots in the future. :P

IB, that's a fine looking fedora! I particularly like the brim on it, especially the back portion.

Indiana Bond,

That's a great hat, it reminds me a little of the Crystal Skull bash, but I'm a relative novice at telling hat types. It really looks good on you as well. Thanks for taking time to post the photos.

I'm glad you think the hat looks good on me. And yes, I requested the Crystal Skull bash from Ken. I just wish I looked better under that great looking hat!!

Yes, he's still around. If you read in the Vendors section, he gives an update. He's had his hands full with a lot these days. Best to call him directly. He's very nice to talk with and I believe his number is in that thread.

When you guys bought your Camptowns, did you have Ken bash it, or do it yourself?

Just Wondering

IB: That hat looks great! Very Lat Crusade.

RR: When I bought my 1936 Fieldmaster I had Ken leave it open crowned & bashed it my self. Then when I ordered my 1945 Metropolitan Ken did the starter bash for me & I had finished off with a tighter pinch & a bit more swoop in the brim.

These hats are very easy to shape and hold that shape with a small application of steam when done. After that you just play with it over the years to get exactly what you like.

Cheers!

I was able to get ahold of Ken today finally, as he is a very busy guy with all he's got going on. This thread seems relatively pleased with the 1936 Fieldmaster, but I'm having a hard time waiting. He mentioned that some people have stated it does not look exactly accurate, but personally, I don't know if I could tell or not.

I guess what I'm wondering is, is the hat pretty accuarate, and is it worth the wait?

Sale Time.

Post by DanielJones »

See Kens post in the Vendors Section for a good deal on a fantastic Adventure Hat.

viewtopic.php?t=27062

For those who would enjoy a quality hat without a monster wait time I would give Ken a shot at producing your new hat. Wheter you want that Indy/adventure hat or a beautiful city hat Ken's offerings ar top notch. thus far we have our faithful brown and a stunning grey. And, hopefully with enough interest, there will be a black or Noir versoin of the 1945 Metropolitan.

So, check out his site, give him a call and lets add Ken to the roster of full time hat makers that offer us the headwear we love so much.

Cheers!

Current photos of the Fieldmaster

Post by DanielJones »

Ok, as promised, here are the most current images of my 1936 Fieldmaster. It is currently about 2 1/2 years old and holding it's own.

It's my most worn hat next to my black flat cap from Hat People. I absolutely have enjoyed it. Thank you Ken! :D

Our latest trip to Disneyland. Me and my step son on Main Street USA. This was the weekend that one of the ride operators had thought I was wearing an Adventurebilt. What a great compliment. :D

This is the latest tweak to the lid. I had cut the brim dow again to 2 1/2 on the sides & 2 3/4 front & back. Plus a few smooshings, a little wetting on some water rides & more handling seems to have softened it a little more. One of these days I may be able to get that SOC look to it.

Cheers!

Ok guys, got my fieldmaster, here are some pics. i've still got some tweaking to do... i've already recut the brim down an extra quarter inch. kinda a non-specific bash for now. and the brim is really flat, so that needs a little help but it'll get there.

Looks good so far. Not to worry about developing character. The more you wear it the more character the brim will develop to what you like. The Camptowns are pretty easy that way. So far my favorite of my three has been my Legend. It was soft & perfect right out of the box. No steaming needed to set the bash.

Congratulations on your Fieldmaster Walking Eye, you're going to enjoy it for many years.

Dan, I wish i had your hat bashing skill. though i'm sure i'll get mine looking satisfactory sooner or later.
Venk thanks for the compliment. i'm looking foward to seeing what you do with yours!
my only problem with having yet another new hat is deciding which hat to wear now! the new camptown or the new grey english style bowler the girlfriend got me for christmas or the old pork pie that's been brought back into rotation. The camptown has been the victor so far.

Thanks Walking Eye, compliments are most appreciated. But the look of the last image is after three years of wear & tweaking. In three years I'm sure yours will appear the same.

Wow, tough choices there. I mean, the Camptown is an obvious choice, but man, the lid your girl got you for Christmas, yikes. :o May have to go with that hat there to appease her. ;-) :[

Anyway, hope you are enjoying your new prize.

Cheers!
