Storm Flap

Post by LJHood »

Do any of you have a problem with your storm flap sticking up when you zipper the jacket? Does anyone know how to fix this?

No, but I would think that a good deal of leather-greese and
some "massage" would soften the end of the flap so much that it
dosen´t stick out.

Hope that helps.

Best regards

You can't and this is one thing I've been stressing on for years now. The top of the storm flap is not right. The storm flap is 1.5 inches. The colar is supposed to go to the middle of the storm flap which is the (you guessed it) 3/4 inch mark. None of mine do but my last Wested had the corner of the flap more rounded just like in the film and it helps. My other 2 have the top of the storm flap sticking up like an arrowhead. Very annoying. I just wish that Peter would make this change standard on at least the Raiders jackets but since he hasn't yet, I don't see it happening. I ordered my last Wested with this change and it did not come with it. SIGH Even though these minor inconsistencies reamin, my Wested is still the best jacket I've ever had, hands down.

Is this problem with the storm flap occurring when the jacket is zipped all the way up and the top snap used? Or something that happens even when the jacket is zipped midway?

I can't quite visualize the problem described in the above posts, nor am I sure I understand Agent5's proposed design solution. I'm planning on ordering a Wested soon, so I'd like to know what sort of mod to request if this is something that can be fixed in the design of the flap. Could anyone post a pic (or point me to one) that illustratates the problem? Agent5, can you explain a little bit more how you think Peter could remedy this in the future?

I'd already been thinking I'd order mine without a snap at the top, as I don't ever expect to wear the jacket zipped all the way up.

thanks,

- A.I.

Agent5, like A.I., I’m not quite sure I visualize the problem either, but thanks for pointing it out. I hadn’t heard of this problem before, or if it was mentioned in the past I must have missed it. Just when you think you know everything there is to know about ordering from Peter, something else pops up. eeh! ;)

For those that care...the Expedition collar does extend into the flap half way.
