On the one hand too big, on the other hand I think you should also try to bash the sides of the brim, the sides should be more curved, if you know what I mean

The first time you put it on it's a shock. Wear it around, look in different mirrors, you'll quickly become acustom to it. -Try lowering the back just a little bit, that may help, and curl the sides of the brim. Front-view looks great on the bash. I for one cannot pull off the center-dent bash, I do a C-Crown.
Oh, and the color looks FABULOUS! I am sooooo jealous. -And to think, yours was $60 cheaper than my Deluxe that I hate the color of!

Wear it proudly!

Citron, it'd be nice if you didn't use every thread with the word "Federation" in it as a place to gripe about your individual hat. It's getting a bit old.

Nobody; My advice would be to turn the back brim up, or work in a curl, and try to lower the back of the crown slightly (not too much). Then, just give yourself time to get used to it. Feds tend to look different then you imagine on your own noggin, plus, they gain character after a few good wearings.

Just keep working on it. I think that's part of the fun. If you follow some of the above suggestions it's going to be great!
My Federation looked allot like yours after the first bash attempt. Now it's great (IMHO).

I ended up doing a cross between a C bash and the center dent in the rear of the hat, mainly because with a deep center dent in rear it makes the front look more tapered, not enough hat crown to go around I guess. Mine's a very rounded, fairly shallow center dent in the rear. Doesn't look great from side view but ends up looking great in front.

I don't know if it's screen accurate, but I found on my Federation that you can also push in the sides of the lower crown and this will make it look like there is a slight bulge on top and reduce any tapered appearance a little.

Here's a link that shows a Federation from side view, you can see how the crown is slightly darker just above the bow in the rear, that's where I pushed it in a bit for the bulge effect.

yeah I have to agree it does look a bit on the large side on him especially in the side shot. the bash looks good however there is a bit of taper but that isn't uncommon in a federation.

Nobody, you have a roundish head. Turning your hat to the right a half to one inch, maybe more (requires a repositioning of the front pinch) will take taper out of the sides and put some needed taper in the front and back. Plus, it will then be front pinched off center like the Raiders hat.

There's too much reverse taper going on from the side view, and that explains why the front view is tapered and possibly why the hat looks too big. Lessen how deep the the crease goes so that you get a more even look on the front and side. Don't resist the Federation's height!

I'm actually thinking more turn would be better still. I know that may seem odd at first, but take a look at pics of the Raiders hat and you'll see that's where Indy's bow shows a lot more of itself than most bows would on a front view. This should presumably lessen the taper on the front view too. It also looks like the non-bow side's dent goes a little too back as a result of the first turning. Resetting the dents so that they don't indent as far may also help reduce some of the taper.

I tried the turn first but I just couldn't get the brim to look straight. I ended up using a teardrop bash.

I'm not sure if I understood you correctly, but the brim is not supposed to look streaight with the turn; that's the whole point of it. The brim is supposed to warp like it does in many scenes from "Raiders." I may not have understood exactly what you meant, however, and your hat does look excellent the way it is-- certainly much better than before.

That's a good-looking hat. I think those are the first pics I've seen of a standard Federation...

..which leads me to wonder...is the Standard Federation the same as the Akubra Adventurer (from David Morgan)?

I have an Adventurer that looks exactly like Nobody's Fed...

I didn't realize that the brim warped as much as it does with the turn, so my attempt at the turn was pretty close to accurate. I might keep it like this for a while and later go for the turn.

Thanks for the kind words everyone.

The last pic you posted looks weird. The hat is too high up on the back of your head. It looks like you're wearing it like an old army BDU hat.
