How heavy is your jacket?

Post by Kt Templar »

Ok, just as a completely non scientific sampling of the jackets that I have or have access to. I thought it'd be interesting to see what the relative weights of a few Wested jackets were. These were weighed with an angling "spring" scale.

Well, I would have to say my Wested black TOD goat weighs in around the 3 lb. more or less. More, especially when the pockets are populated with stuff.

Cheers!

I'm surprised to see HH that much heavier than cowhide. VERY interesting!

Of course, these will be the scales regarding Wested jackets only, right? I know my cowhide VIP wings FAR outweights anything I've ever received in cowhide from Wested!

Yes, the NP is quite light for cowhide. I had a regular cowhide and I believe it weighed about the same as the horse.

Yes, because it was so early I had to pretend it was a LC.

Sneaky! Have to respect the need for secrecy. I see the double-stitched shoulders now. So I gather that Wested is not regulated by the NDA that governs Tony Nowak and Adventurebilt until the movie premiers?

Technically, yes, he is, as he was in the running for the project, nor does he have approval of licensing of a reproduction, so you didn't see or hear anything, whip......... :- 8)

Someone take KT out back and beat him now.... :whip:

Actually, KT did a good job of keeping this on the QT. Perhaps discretion warrants simple PMs in these circumstances.

That's the Novapelle hide. Although I haven't actually weighed my regular cowhide, I'm sure it comes in at oh... about 40 pounds!!! ...at least that's what it feels like.

What's the tickness of the leather on the novapelle? I had todd's $149 and returned it because it was too short but it also felt extremely thin. If I'm spending $300+ on a custom jacket I'd like to know some sort of comparison between the two. Any info would be appreciated. :D

The novapelle is a lot thicker than the lamb, it is actuallly about the thickness of the horse but lighter in weight, ie. it is less dense. It doesn't feel fragile. BUT if you want a jacket that "feels" heavy duty go for the horse or the regular cowhide which is even heavier.

Currently, for me, if you want something that will distress fairly easily and has some body to it, the novapelle is hard to beat. Especially if you are looking to do a LC or CS type jacket.
