Disney Fedoras

Post by JockThePilot »

Hi, i'm new to Club ObiWan so my question may seem daft to some.
What are the major problems with the Disney Fedoras? I've heard some disparaging comments, but I can't seem to find any other information. Are they poor quality materials? (wouldn't surprise me), inaccurate to the films? (also wouldn't surprise me.) a rip off?
or are the Disney Fedora's an acceptable starting fedora?
Because I am looking to buy an Indy Fedora, I have less than $100 to spend, and I don't want to have to change the ribbon. Does anyone know of any suggestions? Is this even possible?
thanks in advance for helping a newbie,

As for the Disneys, I think they're the Dorfman Pacific lids. The Wool Fedoras are the low end of the line. Avoid them. The higher Fur Felt is the way to go, but the Disney/Dorfman will have a Teardrop crown vs. a Center Dent. To be more accurate, you'd have to re-bash the crown. But the felt isn't too bad.
For under $100, I'd go a Fed or a Fed Deluxe.... RK, pip in here!
But you bash it yourself, which isn't all that bad.
Otherwise, a Lee Keppler Fedora is around $130.00 and he'll bash it himself for ya. A very nice lid itself, trust me, I own one!

Good Luck!

Of course, I'm sure he doesn't have a clue what all that's about. (grins) He's referring to the Akubra Federation fedora from HatsDirect.com. The Disney fedora is pretty low end on the fedora scale ( ok, WAY down on the scale), and for the monies you're willing to spend, why not buy something that's the real thing? You can find all the details at http://www.hatsdirect.com Click on the fedora section, and read away. Well made hat. Renderking always says 'best hat he's owned in 20 years', and on a regular basis. Thanks all for the speedy replies.
I think the Akubra Federation may be the route I'm going to go. when I was looking at the info on it before I wrote that post I didn't realize the Fed had an acceptable ribbon right out of the box.
The main reason I wanted to know about the Disney hats was that I could find no information on them. I guess it's just a case of "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all."
Thanks again

Thanks for the welcome.
After some "research" I was able to deduce what was meant by your message. If that doesn't make a guy feel like Indy, what does?
