Post by ortiz344 »

ok, so since indy didnt swing on real whips, has anyone here created a 'fake' swinging 'whip' cable?

Adam made a special 12 foot cable core whip for me a couple years back at my request. Once he finished it I believe he talked about instead of finishing the end like a normal whip (how mine is made, fall and cracker complete) and having the cable extend another few feet and connect to a caribiner or something.

here is a pic of the one he made me its the redish colored one, the brown is a standard construction 10 footer. i don't know if he ever made any others. cable core whips have come up quite a bit around here. oh the fall on this whip is also MUCH heavier than a standard fall.

well i have used it to crack obviously however being 12 feet you need quite a bit of open area for that  . i can actually get a wrap with it so tight that it is hard pressed to come undone. i havn't tried swinging from it or anything like that. some of the guys around here made me promise if i ever did i had to video it...so they could all see me hurt myself when i fell

Adam made one for me too for filming - we used it for a stunt. It held up well but I wouldnt advise using it in any other capacity (eg - cracking) - we just needed it for specific shots.

Do you mean the one I made?
If you tried to crack that, you would most
likely kill someone with it...

yeah i am able to crack the one of mine however it is a complete BEAST. also there is the little fact that if its been coiled for a long time the cable will hold a memory of that shape and try and go back to it...even if it means the whip flying right back in your face so that it can recoil

You've got to give it a try! That's the whole point of its existence, surely?
