Does the Weight of the Sidestraps Crease the Leather?

Post by Castor Dioscuri »

Here's an interesting question...

I noticed that on most of my jackets, they seem to have horribly creased back panels curving towards the side straps.

I know that tightening sidestraps way too tight creates a stress point, but I couldn't help but wonder...

When I took a closer look, the sidestraps were drooping over, angling downwards in a diagonal fashion. This in turn seemed to create the creases, which in turn affected the pleats, making them flare outwards as a result of the creases.

So, does anyone else agree or think that the weight of the sidestraps makes these wrinkles on the leather? And is this bad? (the last one is a rhetorical question) ;)

Hey, the straps are part of the Indy jacket as is "the drape." I wouldn't worry about it at all. These jackets just look better with age.

Yes, mine does what you describe. Its part of "the look". If I every get another jacket, I will probably have the handwarmer/slash pockets deleted or sewn shut, as I think the sidestraps pulling them open creates a potential "snag"/tear point.
