What if it doesn't fit?

Post by Chewie Louie »

Howdy folks! Being a noob around here, I am just getting the hang of searching the threads.

Anyway, I am excited about my recent order to purchase an AB fedora. I provided Steve with measurements of the ole noggin. I included measurements that felt too tight, just right and semi-loose so he would have a better idea of the correct size.

I guess my biggest fear is not so much the wait time (I am ready for that), but I would hate to get a hat that was too tight or too loose. I haven't read any complaints thus far, but I was just wondering if anyone might have received a hat that didn't fit right. Do these things stretch? Shrink?

In my experience, hats shrink very slightly if you do not wear them for long periods of time. If you get a hat stretcher, you won't have to worry about this.

That happens because you sweat in it, and then let it dry for a while, and the sweatband shrinks. My rabbit AB had this happen, and it's snug on my head now. A hat stretcher can fix it if you don't go overboard.

Right. You want to make the hat stretcher the same size as your head. If you make it any larger, you're basically re-blocking the hat for a bigger head.

and even if you don't, just wear it for a few hours and it'll stretch back out on its own.

I wouldn't worry about it not fitting too much. If you were right on, you've got nothing to worry about, and if you were a little off, the hat will adjust to fit you better. Unless you were WAY off in your measurements, you shouldn't have any problems. :junior: -IJ

Doesn't Steve add an extra 1/8 of an inch so when you sweat it isn't too tight?

Yes, This is correct but you should send him your true hat size and let him do the rest. Even if you do get the wrong size, Don't do anything to the hat and let Steve correct it.
