Size 59 head into a 58 hat

Post by JulianK »

As the subject line says. Would I be able to stretch with a hat jack a size 58 hat to fit my size 59 head or would it ruin the shape of the hat somehow??

Cheers.

I've done it before with a Federation, and had no problems. As long as you're just moving one size up or down, it doesn't seem to deform the crown...but any further and expect taper.

Pardon me for hijacking the thread, but if my noggin is 22" around is it better to go with a size 7 or 7 1/8?

Thanks

Who are you ordering from? Yes, it can make a difference.

Iam a 22 and I have ordered a size 7 until now and thats always worked for me. I wouldnt go 7 1/8
then you would really have a hat that is too big.

I'll say once again, it depends on who you're talking about ordering from.

If you're looking at a US company, the charts are different than if you are dealing with a company like HatsDirect. HatsDirect charts are represented in metrics, and it's not a true 'size 7' or otherwise when compared to a US sizing chart.

If you're talking about dealing with HatsDirect, tell them your actual head measurement, and ask them to measure an actual hat to meet that measurement, rather than give them a size.

If you're dealing with a US company, use a standard chart, or give them your actual head measurement and let them tell you what their charts say.

If dealing with a custom company, they'll just want your actual measurement.

Just as an example. My Federation is a size 59. Now this usually translates into a 7 3/8. But I also have a safari hat which says on the label 7 1/4 (Size 59)!. As Michaelson pointed out, the best way is to just give them your head measurement because there is a little 'slack' on sizing depending on who you order it from.
