Hatmaking and terminology

Post by ddibling »

Ok, now that I've committed myself to a really nice , really expensive hat, let me demonstrate my newbie-ness by asking the following question. Would someone direct me to a good website(s) that would explain the hatmaking process and some of the terminology that flies around here like snow outside a Nepalese bar? I think I'm following the gist of blocking and bashing, but I'd like to be sure.

Thanks! :D

Unfortunately, this link seems to be dead. Anyone know if it was moved somewhere?

Marc did one on this site that you can probably find if you use the search function, and this is another good one:

Thanks, rcinlv! That's a great set of pics. It's amazing to watch the basic hat blank turn into a finished piece.

You're right. It's here, in case anyone else is interested. viewtopic.php?t=22381&highlight=making

Marc's tutorial is awesome! By Marc's calculation, it took 9.6 hours, spread over several days for a hat that he says went pretty quickly. So no wonder there's a wait! Which is just fine by me. I'm looking for a hat that I'm going to be proud to wear for years to come...I know Adventurebilt will deliver!
