I'd be disappointed with that... it reminds me of the early WPG bags- they were a similar tan, then they upgraded to a more accurate green.

With all the great things Magnoli offers, I'm surprised that the bag doesn't look right. I'd drop him a PM.

Other than the colour, the bag looks good.

I agree...very disappointed. :(
I just wanted to be wrong about the color so I posted w/o criticizing it myself.
I just sent Indy Magnoli an email.
Construction and strap are excellent btw.

No matter what color that bag is though. It still looks like a pretty BA (not SA) bag IMHO! 8)

I would probably use that bag as my normal bag.

How curious.

I was thinking about picking up one of these, so I will watch with great interest how this develops.

I got one a while back and was also quite disappointed with the color. It's a very nice bag, but I went ahead and bought an original bag for SA and I use the Magnoli for school books.

I feel this...I dont think it's about beeing picky I think we all just want to have whats seen on screen,to get our gear as close to Indy's

it's a GREAT bag dont get me wrong,it's one of the most SA bag have seen..but when it has a color like that then it makes it not as reconizable as what it would be if it was green....but it's one fine bag and I am whaiting on mine now..

I hate to say this but if I get the same bag with the brown color I am afraid I will have to return it for a green bag?...or I maby just redye it?..

High regards

Picky?
I want what I ordered.
See the 2 pics at the top of the post.
Granted, I ordered befor the the final product was in.
But My disappointment and 1 month wait could have been solved by a simple conversation that went like this...
Magnoli: "The bags are in, they are a little lighter than expected"
Ron: "what do you mean lighter?"
M: "Well, they are brown."
R: "sorry to hear that. Cancel my order."
Done. Probably would have ordered the strap anyway. A shirt was on my list as well. Not so now.

I don't need a nice bookbag. I am not a student. I carry a wallet and keys.
I purchaed a replica of a bag seen in a few movies. I did not get it.

I just ordered one of these, he said that he was out of stock and waiting for a new shipment. Maybe it will be a different color, if not I guess that I will dye it.

I sent him a PM before he got them in stock and he said that the color in the pictures was accurate, it just depended on the lighting, but I have yet to see the bag in any lighting that makes it look green. For me, the color is important because Indy's entire costume is brown except that bag. If you make the bag brown it looks really bland.

I think I'd prefer a brown bag. Then again, I like to be a little different - I wear my bag on my right side, f'rinstance. It's more comfortable to me.

I've recently ordered two of these and am anxious to see 'em.

I have a Canadian MKVII and it's a very light tan, almost white-ish. I like it just fine (actually Ms. Rica Chez has claimed it and takes it everywhere -which is why I ordered two. ;) ).

Wow! I like that brown, too. My W&G originals are a tan color. I kind of prefer the brown tints over too much green. They go with the 'earthy' colors of the outfit much better and don't stand out so much against the brown/taupe colors of the pants and shirt like a gree one does.

Here are some undoctored photos for color comparison. I put one of my HJs and a whiskey-colored whip for comparison. At the top and to the left are two original surplus bags. To the left is my new replica. And at the bottom is my older version. As you can see my new version is very similar to the original bags (the older version is a bit browner, indeed).

http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg29 ... ors003.jpg
http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg29 ... ors001.jpg

It's obvious that rjallen70's images are taken under very warm lighting, making his bag look browner than they are. Though, I would not describe may bags as green at all, but a light olive drab.

Ironically, I remember when people were complaining that the old WPG bags were too GREEN! #-o

In any case, since these bags are "in stock" items and not made-to-order, they can be returned for a full refund, no problem.

Kind regards,
Magnoli

Indy;

Ironically, I remember the complaints about the WPG originally being too tan, then being to green. 8)

Let's face it. The original bags were made by a LOT of different manufacturers with a LOT of different colored fabrics. Each manufacturer even made different shaded bags within the same year before letting them go into service. One way to make them greener and a bit more of the same color in the field was using Blanco.

Looking at Indy's shot's I think he has managed to go just inbetween of the extremes in order to make a bag that could go for an original color wise.

It is certainly not brown, in my book.

Just look at this shoot from the UK summit of 2004, all originals except from the 3rd bag from the top;

Ok the big gun.
Canon digital D40, spot metered Canon 90mm macro ISO 100. od and U.S. Army issue woodland camo as well as ordinary cardboard for reference.

Caveat emptor the bag is brown.
If anyone wants it $50 shipped. Bag is in the U.S. You can have it in 3 days. Magnoli offered to take it back, but i figure it is cheaper to keep in in the states. Mon it goes back home to Indy Magnoli.

Well, I just bought the bag and I'll have to see how it looks with the rest of my gear.

To be honest I was looking at ordering a new bag from WPG but to me those looked a bit to dark green. :?

For my own personal tastes I'm looking for a lighter green "olive" color and that's what I see with Magnoli's new bag.....My current Mark VI bag has a yellowish hue to it that I'm not to crazy about...

I'm looking to distress the bag and add dirt to it. So the more faded and used it looks the better......

Well, my original MKVII is almost tan colored too, but maybe that's just because it's older.
I always asked myself if I should dye it, what do you think?

Nope that's all me. I'm wearing my AB Rabbit, my Todd's Standard jacket and my close-enough Old Navy shirt. I just added Fuller's Earth to the hat and jacket and of course used the photo filter and a made the background using Photoshop. ;)

IndianaLV.......I wouldn't dye that bag at all. I think it looks fine just the way it is.......Indy's bag was never dark green it's always looked dirty and faded.....

This seems kinda strange. I got a Magnoli bag just last week (as a birthday present, and it's superb, so a huge thanks to Magnoli!), and it doesn't look that colour at all.

That's how mine looks, and I love it. It's strange that yours looks such a different colour!

Vivli and rjallen70's bags are identical, from the same production run. This just goes to show how photos and perceptions can be very different.

Hi Magnoli! I just thought since you were posting in this thread I'd give a quick thanks! I actually posted a topic over on Indy Longue about how impressed with your service I was (my parents told me the whole story of how they got this bag for me in time). So I just wanted to say a huge thank you and I say how completely impressed I was with your service! I've only just started posting here, hence why I didn't post it on this site, but my thoughts remain the same! Really would reccomend you to anybody (which is why I was slightly suprised by this thread!).

I have to echo Vivli and holt's sentiments. The issue of the exact color of gear is always going to be touchy, and an actual military surplus item like an MK bag is worse than normal. I've seen many original MK's in person, and they vary greatly in color and in overall look sometimes. Odds are, Magnoli's bag matches some real MKVII's, we just haven't bumped into one yet.

Final thought before I pass this bag to Pitfall Harry.
This is an unbelievably well crafted piece of historic gear. It's amazing.
It exactly copys what it is supposed to. A MKVII bag. It probably looks exectly like a great many thousands that saw service.
For me it is just not THE bag. The ONE of many thousands that was carried by IJ in Raiders of the Lost Ark.
I seriouly doubt that I may find everything I want in the bag, but I am willing to sacrifice cut for color, others may feel differently.
It's construction really is perfect.

Well, I'll keep that in mind Indy when Ron sends me the bag. I doubt though I'll be wanting to dye it. I've seen multiple shots of your new bag from different owners and that's what I'm looking for. I was about to order one from your site when Ron put his up for sale. I saw that it was brand new so I jumped on the deal. :D

I may try another bag in the future Indy Magnoli,
But my one disasterous experience with dye has me a little gun shy.
I TRIED to color-correct a flightsuit for ghostbusters...taking khaki to a bit gray-er...just a bit.
Instead of gray-ish khaki I ended up battleship grey. An expensive lesson.
In an attempt to learn from my mistake I vowed to never ever do somthing so stupid again.
Another lesson could be "less is more".
If you have any loose fabric perhaps you would be willing to experiment a bit...a parts/gallon formula for those of us who lack the courage to dunk our gear into the dip.

Not to go too much OT, but I've had the same thing as you. I also collect Ghostbusters gear. Well it's more DIY than actually buying readymade stuff.
Anyway my flightsuit also turned charcoal grey the first time I dyed it. I ended up redoing it like 5 times before I got the color I was looking for.
But it sounds like you didn't use any color remover after your first failed attempt. You can almost always salvage the flightsuit.

Are you BTW also a member of gbprops.com? It's just been revamped as gbfans.com.

I received my Magnoli bag yesterday and I'm really happy with the color. I'm not going to do anything to it, except distress it.
Thanks Indy.
