My first selfmade whip

Post by munakuppi »

Here is my first whip I've made out of veg tan goat hide.

Image

sorry for the pic quality... its taken with my webcam...

Its my first whip made from a complete hide bought just for the purpose.
4 Feet with no paring on the strands.

The goat hide wasn't expensive b'cause it was from the "visualy defect" sorting pile...

Easy to cut and plait but very stretchy!!! breaks in in notime and goes to a wet-noodel state after a while... but it stil cracks easy.

My actual first leather whip is an ugly thing made from unknown scrap leather and was just a try to get a feel for working in leather...

edit/ spelling...

Hey man, good work. As they say, you only get better at anything with time. I look at the Camptown 001 Prototype and cannot believe how my styling work has improved. So charge ahead, budding whipmaster-maker.

Keep up the good work

Well yes and no... Its my first proper whip but my fourth atempt at an actual whip...
My very first was 3-4 years ago and was made from pieces from an old leather west I was going to throw away... that was a real mess of lumps and knots... amazed that it cracked I began to look for info about whipcrafting... second was a too long polycord whip that almost cracked... that one has been unplaited to bee remade with the knowledge I've gained so far... lol.
Then I made my first "prototype" that I made out of chrome tanned goat hide for clothing... wery bad idea! you can't cut a straight strand!!! (unles you cut with scissors) that one is not finnished yet... the knots is yet to be made some time in the future (maybe).

And now we are back to my first proper whip...

My second whip i made of black roo from murphy whips with the firm guidance of Em Brand whips how to make a Bullwhip... Well its a very heavy whip. shotloaded and no splitter to thin out the strands. Unfortunately a friend of mine bought it from me before i took any pics.

ah well...

My third one is a roo stockwhip... I'll take a pic of it later an put it in an here or an own thread later...

Currently Im working on a 10 feet roo Bullwhip...
