What is the right whip to go for when considering SA?

I was going to go for the 10ft 12 Plait, Natural Tan Whip.

I know the whip changed in length considering what indy was going to use it for but what was it when resting on his belt?

Any answers greatly appreciated

None.......They all have the wrong turks head knot. If you do buy one from them..you have to request a screen accurate knot....

As far as I know right now, it is just myself and Bernardo making the Indy whips for WSP. I can't speak for Bernardo (I'm sure it is the same with him), but I know all of the Indy whips I've sent to WSP in the past year or two have had the screen accurate David Morgan style 5part-4bight 3 pass turks head knot. Also, I am sure you can request them to be specifically made by either Bernardo or myself.

With that being said, you also have the option of ordering the whips directly from either of us.

The non screen accurate knot Indy whips that you speak of were a 7 part - 6 bight 2 pass turks head knot on the butt knot. Other than that everything else was always screen accurate. The 7 part - 6 bight is a fancier knot, and a much cleaner looking knot. Personally I like it better when screen accurate isn't my main concern. But as I said earlier, that knot hasn't been used on WSP Indy whips for a year or two now.

Regarding the SA Indy whip the specs are:

12 plait, double plaited belly, Natural Tan Kangaroo Hide, 8 inch handle, 6 plait wrist loop, The butt knot being a 5 part-4 bight 3 pass turks head, and the transition knot being a 5 part - 4 bight 2 pass turks head, and the thong ends in 6 plait.

As for SA length, it is still a bit arguable, but most can agree that the 10 foot length was what was carried on indy's belt, when he wasn't using it, the majority of the time. The other times it was an 8 foot. So if you go with either an 8 or 10 foot length you can't go wrong.

well thank you very much, theres more info there than i thought i needed to know, much appreciated that a vendor hunted me out rather than the other way around.

So, how much would the 10ft with everything that you mentioned that was screen accurate cost me?

when looking at the del carpio site it mentioned ways of payment which seemed abit alien to me (or abit american) i was wondering methods of payment to you?

WOW!! I had no clue you guys were making whips for them!! To be honest....The last time I delt with WSP was 3 years ago....and Joe Strain was still doing whips for em. Sorry for the dissinformation. I haven't gotten a catalog from them in a long time now that I think about it!

No worries about the info. A lot of the details like that aren't really noticeable to the average person, unless you have seen a lot of whips.

There are no extra charges for any of those specifications. The regular price for a 10 ft is $500, but I offer a discount on Indy whips to COW members, so that makes the price $460 not including shipping.

I can be paid by personal check, money order, or paypal.

BTW, love those pictures. My avatar came from a random site when I was searching around, and I got a kick out of it. The picture of Ford in the chair works perfect for it.

I also want to mention that you can't go wrong with a whip from delcarpio whips. Bernardo is an excellent whipmaker, and a good friend.

No worries. I've actually been making various whips for WSP for the past 7 years or so. And I've been supplying some of the Indy whips for about 5 years or so, though Joe Strain was providing the majority of them.

Red Dust, just to reiterated what Paul said, 10 ft and 8 fts where the most common lengths used in the first 3 Indy movies. 10 ft seems to be the most cannon to the actual story and what was worn most often on the belt.

If it where me, I’d order the bullwhip directly from Paul or Bernardo or Joe Strain. All three can make a really great Indiana Jones style bullwhip that’s also very screen accurate looks wise. There are many other whip makers here that can make a great Indy style whip as well, but those 3 seem to have the shape and the feel down similar to the original whips David Morgan made. You might have to wait a little longer, since they usually don’t keep them in stock, but your getting the whip made exactly they way you want it for a even lower price then what Western Stage Props is charging for the same ones these days.

You can't go wrong with a whip from either of those guys! As you're in the UK, you might want to look at my whips too. I'm also in Europe so there would be no customs duties to worry about.

I agree with Borton strongly, hopefully you purchased directly from 1 of the makers instead of WSP. WSP has ridiclous prices.
