A nice boot & quite light @ just 24 oz. I am just not a fan of the "Romper Stomper" sole & yellow stiching. I am an old fart & Docs also have a strong (for me) association with the fascist "National Front".

Speaking of close enough's, I just picked up a pair of close enough's today during my lunch break though I don't know how readily available they are, at least here in the U.S.. I was at a little hole in the wall place up the street from where I work called Emit Surplus Shoes which has an ever changing variety of boots and shoes usually in too small or too large sizes for the average person, but it was a nice day and I had to get outside. Anyway, for $14.95 I picked up these

They have written 'TOMIS made in Romania' on the inside and they seem to be a work boot. They are a European size I believe, the tongue has a 22 and a 7 on it, but I don't know much about European sizing. If the 7 stood for a U.S. size 7 I by rights shouldn't even be able to get my foot in them since I usually wear a 9. They are quite snug but I'm hoping some extreme breaking in measures will change that, for $14.95 I don't feel bad about giving them the business.

A quick 'Google' search on 'TOMIS' has not given forth too much information, but it might be a name to jot down in your notebook and keep an eye out for, if you happen to be 'treasure hunting' in the surplus's and discount places of the world.

I haven't ordered my pair yet, Bullitt. I've actually been trying to decide between the dark tan and the dark chocolate. I was initially leaning toward the dark chocolate, but am now wondering if the dark tan might get even darker after a few months of winter wear.

Hey Scott, just got my pair of dark chocolates in today. I have to tell you these things look great and they will lighten once the leather gets more supple. I'll try to post pics of them some time later.

As I am not very experienced in wearing boots, I have to say I find them rather comfortable. Although the top of the boot sometimes cuts a little in your legs. I am not sure if this is the case with most boots or that it will lessen once you wear them for a while.
However I am very happy with the quality and best of all, these things are waterproof!

Well, I decided to go with the dark chocolate too. I think you're right about the color, and since they're waterproof I plan to give them a pretty good workout this winter.

BTW, these are ok. I've been in them a couple of months, but the soles STINK!!! I cannot wait to get them resoled. You are a bit elevated by the tread that fails to go all the way to the edge of the sole. As a result you are not really stabilized at all, just the oposite and the whole feel is rather precarious. I still like the way the uppers look tho. I'll get a pair of vibrams on there soon.

Raider57, those look nice! I sent back my Farnams because I thought the toe was too pointy (gave them a vaguely cowboy boot feel) and the sole didn't feel very durable. I wonder what these are like. I know nothing of this brand.

I would expect for $140 regular price, they should be well made boots. I have heard they are comfortable as well. I'm tempted to grab a pair of these for the sale price.
I already got the Rockport Farnam's,and the toe is slghtly tapered but really doesn't bother me. Actually didn't notice it until mentioned by some folks here. I have noticed with some other Rockport shoes their soles seem to wear a bit fast. I wear the "Northfield" shoe at work daily.(seems like year/year and a half tops to go thru the tread.) A consequence of the comfort is a soft sole compound perhaps?

Just got the Rockport Farnums in the mail. They must run large. It was about an inch or so too big. Has anyone else who owns a pair had a similar problem? I'm going to return those and get one a half size smaller and another one a full size smaller and just return the one that doesn't fit. They're on sale for $62 at Macy's and I paid $125 for the one pair at Onlineshoes.com. So even if I get stuck with both of them, I'm not out any money. I'll just give the other pair to my son. He'll grow into them.

Has anybody had any luck finding the J Crew Vintage Work Boots?

Yea, My Farnam size 11's are a bit longer than my size 11 Northfield Rockports. Not consistent. I kept 'em though.

Yeah, I was going to mention these Johnston and Murphy's. I tried on a pair in the mall here. They didn't have my size, so I tried the next size up. HUGE!! Bummer, they are real nice! I LOVE Johnston and Murphy shoes, but they like NEVER have my size!

Got the Rockport Farnums today. As I mentioned earlier, I returned my original size and bought one pair a half size smaller and another pair a full size smaller. I think a half size smaller is the way to go with the Farnums.

Hey Nick,I just got a pair of the Murphy's. I like 'em. They are more like a real work boot. Good heavy leather but also a soft lining. The sole appears very hardy as well. Haven't worn them much yet,but heard they break-in nicely. They squeek at first,but I hear that will go away. $99.00 is a steal price for these. That's what I paid for my Rockport Farnham's,which are good too, but they are more of a shoe than boot in comparison.

Although kind of blocky here are some fairly reasonably priced boot choices for those of us who need 3x extra wide boots. The second boots would look better if a different color polish were applied to them, the was tag clipped off the side, and black polish was applied to the gray sole area.

My feet are about a 10.5 in length and a 12 in width.

Morsegist,I would say J&M's run a bit big,maybe one half size. Most of my work and running shoes are 10.5 or 11. For the J&M's,I ordered one of each. I have sent back the 11's and am now waiting on a pair of 10's just to be sure of the fit. If you get two sizes,(maybe try 8.5 and 9)You'll also get a postage paid UPS label with the package, so the return is covered. Carefully read their return policies,ie.Don't wear 'em outside till you are sure! Then just repack the unwanted pair and drop off at a UPS shop. Hope that helps. Great boots in my book!

A lot of people are looking at the Rockports. I got a pair a few months ago, and after a painful period of breaking-in, they're pretty good boots. I recommend getting them from Zappos since no one else offers them in tan. Uneven coats of brown Kiwi polish on tan boots gives an instant appearance of well-worn boots. Brown polish on brown boots doesn't have the same effect.

These Johnson and Murphy boots may have been brought up before.I bought a pair of them.They are pretty close to Alden look, and very durable as well as comfortable. On sale too. Sizes a bit limited now though
