After all the shooting is over

Post by thatguyno1 »

No - this doesn't belong in the Gun forum. My question is - what do they do with all those beautiful screen used hats (and jackets) after they are finished shooting the film? Do they just pack them up and store them in some warehouse (like the end of RotLA)??? How long before something like that would become available to be purchased like at an auction? Obviously I don't now much about the movie business.

They belong in a museum!

...and that's where some of them end up. Some go on tours around the world, some end up collecting dust at places like the Smithsonian, some might end up in the closet of Dr. Jones himself, but I'm guessing the majority of them will find a nice home in the Lucas warehouse, right next to Han Solo's vest and Luke's helmet. ;)

From what I've heard, the majority of costume items are destroyed after most shoots. Serious waste if you ask me.

True, but to echo what was said above, Lucas became a pack-rat after the 80's and keeps most of the costumes from LFL productions in the archives.

This wasn't always the case (*COUGH* Raiders & Temple of Doom *COUGH*)...he used to just keep the props (Ark etc...) but the LFL archives now teem with costumes. More than likely we'll see a traveling exhibit of the stuff, 'cause Georgie knows how to make a buck or two.

That never happens unless there is some specific reason for this. They are stored for a while - go to the actors many times - go back to the costume house they came from or if they were made - then they go into a warehouse for future use. Many times they end up for sale in stores here in LA.

But with iconic movie stuff - it gets sold, given to cast, producers and crew members - and much of it will ends up in displays. Nothing will be destroyed, trust me.

I think sets are the only thing you can be sure will be destroyed.

Unless they're on Universal Studios, in which case they stand a good chance of becoming part of the Backlot Tour! :P
