Has Anyone Even BOUGHT the C.E. Dorfman-Pacific Fedora?

Out of curiousity, has anybody here had enough curiousity to get themselves one of those "collector's edition" fur-felt Dorfman Pacific fedoras? Today, while checking out the US Wings website, I noticed that they are also selling those fedoras as well...

I agree, this does actually look like a nice hat. Still not quite right for an Indy hat. It's got too much taper, not enough height, and the colors are off (ribbon compared to felt). Unfortunately, it still has the ever-so-tacky "Indiana Jones" pin on the side. I have never liked that stuff.

Tangent: Even as a little boy, I was bugged by the fact that my "Winnie the Pooh" stuffed toy had "Pooh" embroidered on the shirt. He never had that in the cartoon, so why should the toy have it? It's not SA.

Back on track: The one thing I do wonder is why the item description says that it is made of "100% genuine beaver fur", but later on mentions it has only a "'touch' of beaver fur". I think we all understand that this hat is 100% beaver, so why would they advertise it as something of a lower quality?

Not sure if it's relevant, but the pin should be removable. When I was a kid, I had one of those wool-felt DP fedoras from Disney, and one of the first things I did was to swipe the pin in disgust. However, for all I know, the current DP's may have permenant pins?

I'm guessing that maybe whoever wrote that may have meant it as a sensory thing, and not a unit of measure? Just a guess though...

Another thing interesting to note is that the price seems to have gone down by about a hundred... When these fedoras were first listed, I believe they were about $525... Now they are $445. Still ridiculously steep, and at that price I'd rather get an AB Deluxe, but interesting to note nevertheless...

All the current DPs have a pin that, when taken off, leaves a huge, garish hole in the bow. So, unless you don't mind that, they are not removable. I agree that the word "touch" in the description is meant to mean feel.

I don't get why anyone would buy a fedora that is completely not SA for around 400 - 500 dollars. For that price you could get 3 Federation Deluxes with all of the additions (new bow and such, maybe a re-block) to make it SA. Heck,,,you could go with a AB and you've got the best of the best for under that price (I think)

(PS: I do not own any Indy fedoras yet, but I plan on getting a Federation or Fed Deluxe soon. I am only 17, so I have no money and I try to be frugal.)

This looks like quite a nice hat, and a price of between 2 and 3 hundred seems to be about right. They have added a cheesy pin and upped the price by $200 - that's got to be one expensive piece of white metal.

Pretty clear to me from the context they were talking about the feel of the hat.

If I found one for around $100, I'd probably jump on it and make some special modifications. However, seeing as how it costs $500 in the first place, it'd be years before anyone ever sold one at a reasonable price.

Frankly I think that's a fine looking hat! If you're not looking for SA, I think it's a great hat. But man that price!!!! Ouch!

I think it looks worse than the regular fur felt DP. I wouldn't even pay 40 bucks for that hat regardless of screen accuracy. It reminds me of this really tapered Dobbs I got for under 30 that I ghetto reblocked into a reverse tapered crown. You could probably make it into a decent looking hat, but the cost makes all of that unimportant.

I agree with you 100% Marcus, the taper is awful on it...IF you're looking for for an Indy lid. However, I own a fur "safari hat" with the same amount of taper and it's still a nice hat on it's own. ...but I did pay only $30 for it!! For what you're getting here I think this one's rudely overpriced!
