I have to laugh at myself now.

I've worn jackets with the 'Wested' style zip for so long, I was wearing my VIP this past week, and half the time couldn't get it upzipped because it was on the other side!

You CAN teach an old dog new tricks, and all that jazz.

Oh, no word yet on the jacket. Still waiting.

just curious....how on earth can you tell the zipper is on the left?

and do any of the vendors offer the option of a left zipper?
Its the zipper PULL that is on either the left or right hand side.

On jackets and other MENS clothing sold in the US, the zipper pull is on
the right hand side, so when you put the clothing on, you are zipping it
by grabbing the zipper PULL with your right hand, and zipping it up.

On alot of european clothing, the zipper PULL is on the left hand side,
so you are using your left hand to zip up the clothing.

Since Wested is in England, their standard is to have the zipper PULL on
the left hand side, and thats how the original Indy jackets were made,
and thats why you see it on screen that way.

Alot of people here in the US will ask for the zipper PULL to be on
the right hand, or amercian side, as some refer to it.

Flathead
so if i order a standard wested off the rack it will come with the zipper on the left? or do i have to specify?

thanks, joey

I just heard that David Hack just returned home from an unexpected triple heart bypass.

Needlesss to say, I'm sure this project has been slowed down.

Here's wishing David a speedy recovery!!

He says he knew something was amiss when he went in for a general check up, and doctor looked him right in the eye and asked him if he had his affairs in order. He was serious.

Considering it was the Wings jacket that was used in TofD, that doesn't surprise me much, PLATON.

Just got word that, though things slowed down a bit with David's heath situation, the project continues to move forward as we 'speak'.

I'm sure we'd all rather wait a while than to have him come back too soon. All the best for a healthy recovery Sarge.

Hey, everybody!
Does anyone have pics of their U.S. Wings jacket they could post?Preferably wearing it. I'm particularly interested in the vintage cow. And if I can think of anymore ridiculous demands I'll post them.
My best to Sgt. Hack. Here's to a prompt recovery.

I don't think they look like that any more. The pockets these days appear much too large for a good TOD. Maybe they will return to the old design.

The sample jacket using the antique goatskin was not the least bit acceptable. As was surmised by those who saw the sample photo above, it was even more orange in appearance when a full jacket was created by the factory and submitted for review.

So, the antique goatskin was scrapped, and a different hide has been chosen. More as information becomes available, but this information was received this morning from David Hack.

The project is moving forward again...

Italian Leather tanned in France?
No way, the raw leather may have been bought in Italy but being Goatskin it would NOT been of Italian origin. Futher the Italians have more and better tanneries than the Frence so there would be no point.
I have been having skins contract tanned in Europe for more than 30 years and I do know what and where.
I think this is a bit of Hype.
Cheers

Latest email from David Hack:
I think we are going to give up on the Vin. Goat Skin and go with a Vintage soft Seal Brown Cow! Our Factory made one sample of the Goat and I did not like the way it turned out.. The Vin. Cow will have our US Military Cotton Lining and the same cut as our First Indy Jacket..
These jackets will be out April 1, for the Public and will have the same price as our VIP Indy.

Sarge
Ok, Peter, play nice. [-X

I know his VIP cowhide is sourced from France. Maybe he used the same company to do this single run of goatskin, as it was just a trial run. Just a guess. I'm just the messenger here, like I have been for you in the past.

Sorry Michaelson, did this after yours.
I meant no malice just pointing out what is obvious to me.
The Skin may well have come from France but it would not have been Italian goat thats my only point.
The best lambskin is English or Icelandic skin but tanned in Italy or France, the worst is Australian and New Zealande as the leather normally is thick and insect/tick damaged.
Keep Well
