thinking of ordering another wested and need some help quik

Post by Holt »

Hi.well I got a wested not long ago and at first i thought it looked great and fitted like a glove,but......

it was a 44r and I found out after a little wearing that it was to baggy.

I am a 6' tall

chest 46''
waist 38''
full sholders 23''

what should I get with those measures?
42 or 40?

what was the jacket sizes of ford?wasn't it 42?
I read somewhere that he was 6' tall.is that true?

Hope anybody can help me because I am in need for some help

Thanks

I would think a 44R would be fine for a person who has a chest size of 42 inches. I just bought a 40 and I felt like it was tight when I first got it, it is starting to loosen up a bit after having it after a week. I am not sure what you mean by too baggy, just too big, or the wested just finally breaking in enough that it is just too loose. If you have a chest size of 42, I would try a 42 or whatever it is you wear in a suit jacket. I believe Harrison Ford wore a 42 for Raiders and the other films. He was though at that time pretty slim built. I am sure he has put on a few pounds since then. I would go with a 42 if you think a 44 is too baggy, just make sure you get the body length right and get your specs all in order. I loved your jacket, didn't you just get that last month. Well at least you have one that is a little bigger than your size.

Peter thought I would be a 40 or 42. I found the 40 very tight when I first got it, but now that I have been wearing it quite often and got a little rain on it yesterday, it is starting to loosen up a bit. I think a 42 might fit on me better, but we will see. That is pretty much my two cents on it, hope that helps.

If you can I would ask Peter his thoughts. I have found him very helpful when placing orders....yes I have ordered more than once from him. I have always found him pleasant to deal with.

thanks for replting that helps.how tall are you then?and what is you chestsz?
cause if its similar to mine I might go with an 40.I really like the idea that it loosens up a bit and might not feel that thight.'

Yes i got one last month but to be honest I destroyed the back of the jacket.I got pushed to a sharp corner and it leaved a nasty cut in the the back

thats why I need another

I'm 6'4" with a 47 inch chest. I went for a 48 long. My other one was a 46 but it fits tighter (obviously), but still looks great.

That is good you talked to Peter to get it figured out. What exactly did he say what the solution was. My chest measures to a 40, that is what I wear in a suit jacket, I figure a 42 might give me a few inches more so it would not be so tight, but maybe a 40 will loosen in time I am not sure. If your chest is a 46 and 44 is too baggy something wierd is going on. I'm fairly short, but average height for a man in the 1930-1950's, 5'6". So did you just order another jacket today? Just was wondering. :) Well I hope the next jacket you get fits you well holt. Good luck on your purchase if you made one or your next purchase.

yes something weird was going on and that my friend was the taiolor band I used.it was a really old one and had been streched out a bit and the inces was a bit worn off and it did not give me the right measurements.I just got back in the house with a new tailor band and guess what all new different measures

peter suggest that I buy a 42 8's slim fit,and that excaly what I have done.

I browsed wested site and I saw that they have a combo.jacket+shirt and pants for 200 Pounds.
I think that is a good deal

Oh, you have gone with the combo, very nice. :D Sounds like a fast food place, yes I would like the combo please. That is good you got that resolved. My tape measure for measuring clothes, is not that worn down, did not really use it that much when I had to have one for sewing class in 7th grade, man that was a long time ago. Maybe I should get a new one too. I hardly used the thing though. Anyway glad everything got sorted out holt, hope your jacket turns out great. I think with the 200 pound deal, I think those are just off the rack right? Or can you get a custom jacket, pants, shirt for 200 pounds? Good luck on your purchase holt. In my experience Peter is always a great person to deal with, always very helpful.

Maybe because of this....if this old one was lambskin. It probably wouldn't have happened with goat. Scratched, maybe, but cut? I doubt it.

Well I believe he has one of the raiders special jackets, and from what I heard, it is a thinner lamb, then the AUTH lamb on most jackets, because its not made at wested.

You are a 46 inch chest and you are going for a 42? Wow! I would love to find out how that works for you.

I am a 47" chest. I have a 46" tall jacket with the 80's fit and the chest is almost too tight, that is why I went one size up to the 48 tall. I went tall so I would have long enough sleeves.

I am going to be curious to see how the smaller jacket fits you since we are almost the same size.

Me too.

Indiana Hult, you do know that the Wested Raiders jacket is made to a military spec
when it comes to fit right?

What that means is that the Raiders jackets have 4 inches of "movement"
room incorporated into their size.

This means that a size 42 Raiders jacket will have a total chest
measurement of 46 inches!

And, if you get one with the 80's cut, then its going to be even less.

If your own chest, when measured with the tape, measures 46 inches,
and you get a size 42 Wested, which will have a 46 inch chest meaurement,
then its going to be TIGHT!

You won't even have room for a tee shirt under it, much less anything
else.

Make VERY VERY sure you measured yourself CORRECTLY.

You already stated that your tailor friends tape has been "stretched"
out some.

If this is the case, then you are NOT gettng a proper chest measurement
from this tape, and your jacket may suffer from this. Not only in the
chest department, but in the sleeves and back length if you used the
same tape for those measurements.

If you really do have a 46 inch chest, and you get the size 42 Wested,
you are going to look like a stuffed sausage in that thing.

There is a saying in carpentry that states you measure TWICE and
cut ONCE.

Good advice for jackets too...

That's so true to get proper measurements. With accurate measurements Peter can do the math to get a proper fitting jacket to you.

One question.

You said that you currently have a size 44 Wested Raiders, and that
you think its a little bit "baggy".

What type of shirts are you wearing underneath the jacket when you
say its baggy?

What I would do to get closer to the jacket fit that YOU want, is to do this:

Take the size 44 Wested you already have, zip it up, and lay it down
on your bed, with the chest facing up.

Then, smooth it out so its completely flat, and measure the jacket
across the chest with a real tape measure (not your tailor friends
stretched out tape) and measure it from one armpit seam to the
other.

Write this number down. This measurement should be 24 inches. This
means that the total chest measurement is 48 inches. Thats what it should
be for a Wested Raiders size 44 regular.

Then, find another jacket that you have, that you really like the way it fits you,
and do the same thing for that jacket. Zip it, lay it flat, measure it from
armpit seam to armpit seam.

Write that number down.

Now compare the two. Whats the difference in inches?

With this information, you can tell Peter what chest measurement gives
you the fit YOU like best, and you can go from there.
