Hi, welcome. Being in the US, if you want a Herbert-Johnson it's cheaper for you to get it from Todd's Costume. I would suggest to order it open crown and then you have fun bashing it when you receive it. If you are not comfortable with bashing an open crown hat by yourself, I think Todd does it on request (although I think he charges some money, not sure tough!)

Again, welcome on cow :D

Welcome to COW indybrad! :D
As for your question, my personal preferance is for the Magnoli Clothers Herbert Johnson. It's built by Fedora of Adventurebilt fame (he and Marc of AB Deluxe made the new Crystal Skull fedora) right here in the U.S.A. on his Raiders' block. You can't go wrong with that hat or it's pedigree. For an already in progress discussion about this very question see the topic "Which HJ should I get".

Again Welcome, and check your wallet at the door.

welcome to the show.

I agree with Johnny fedora. If you have to just have the HJ logo. You should go the way of the mag/HJ/AB. Steve and Marc are the only ones who have the right block shape to make a Raiders hat. Steve has work the HJ product so it's lot better product.
The Todds HJ is a factory made hat with a custome price tag.
If you want best dang fedora all around than the Adventurebilt line is the way to go. It has the right block shape for the Raiders ( and could do the other movie's) high quality product put together by two of the best craftsmen and the Ab line beat out a truck load of other hatters for the new movie.

The Magnoli HJ is a very nice hat at a good price. The felt is very soft so it does take a bit of tweaking to get the right bash but that is part of the fun. The block is great and I feel that I get a good Raiders look with it. It will hold me over nicely until my AB arrives....someday.

If you are going for a Magnoli Herbert-Johnson you might want to consider that for only $50 more you could actually get an AB beaver, same block, better felt (beaver instead of rabbit). Unless you're fond of the rabbit or of the brand name "Herbert-Johnson", it's something you might keep in consideration

Time can also be a consideration. They may be wanting the hat before the movie comes out.

Very true (still, a rabbit for practically the same price of a beaver is a crime IMO, bloody Herbert-Johnson brand  )

I think the only reason this conversation went down the HJ path was...that was the question. Check the title.

Magnoli's HJ is a Raiders replica; if you prefer the TOD look, Todd's HJ may be a better choice, because the current HJ blockshape works well with a TOD bash.

However, I read somewhere recently that Todd is now using his own block, as well as supplying the vintage HJ crest in the liner; you might want to check with him before you buy to make sure about that, if it's the TOD look you decide to go for.

I think it has been proven on more than one account that if you bash it right the HJ will look like raiders;) Not talking about the magnoli one because that one looks too much like the KOTCS hat.

I think most forgot what the raiders hat looked like with all the new movie hat replica's;)

My experience did not bear this out. I've owned several HJ's since 1990 and could never get a satisfactory Raiders look out of any of them-- not for want of trying! :) The Magnoli HJ, on the other hand, DID have the look I had always wanted-- right out of the box. Some might be able to wring a decent Raiders look out of the standard modern HJ, but I wasn't one of them. The sides would always taper way too much.
