If you could only own one Indy jacket, which style (RoTLA, ToD, LC), hide (lamb, goat, cow, HH, etc.), and vendor (Wested, Todd's, US Wings, etc.) would you choose and why?

Wested ROTLA, 80's cut, with the 'old' lambskin I hear so much about, because, that Wested is Raiders. Ok, since I can't get the old lambskin, I'd go for the new goat.

For me there can only be one answer-- The Raiders jacket, as exemplified by Todd's Custom lambskin. Made from the original pattern, and looks every inch the part.

My jacket has to be a full replica of the LC jacket.LC was and is still my favorite movie of the 3.but after that Raiders

thats why a Magnoli full version of the LC is on its way to me soon.

I cant wait.specially not after seeing some of his latest jackets.It looks like he does an EXCELLENT job on them.

Flightsuits (Gibson & Barnes) light seal goatskin Expedition. It’s the only jacket out there (with maybe the exception of a US Wings) that can really take abuse without coming apart. It’s without question the best-made, most luxurious Indiana Jones jacket out there. It’s high on the scale for accuracy too (it is actually as accurate as they come, it’s just that it was based on a stunt jacket and not the hero jacket). My friend Dr. J told me that he really liked the look of his TODD’s jacket. He said that it felt like a costume jacket though, and he felt that the Expedition is the jacket that the real Indiana Jones would have worn. It feels real. It’s tangible.

Keep in mind I own the Standard Todd's jacket and I compared that to a Goatskin Expedition. Obviously, the lamb is going to feel less substantial. I love my Todd's. In fact, I think Todd's Custom in cowhide would be my choice for a Raiders end-all, be-all.

Ditto. My Flightsuit Expo in the seal chrome goatskin is my favorite of my 3 jackets.

My Wested horse hide Raiders jacket.

I've looked up every single seam several times since I got it, gone over every square millimeter of leather and enjoyed how it slowly but surely becomes softer with every day of wear and tear.

I've had and seen several goatskin jackets in the past and this horse hide beats them all when it comes to toughness.

I only do own one and if I knew then what I knew now, I'd made the same choice: a Wested Raiders in distressed hide. I'm just awestruck by the overall quality. I was sipping drinks in the uber-fancy Willard Hotel, about 150 yards from the White House, in it Wednesday evening.

No doubt that your horsehide will probably last as long as you do. But in general, horsehide is not tougher than goat. Original A-2 jackets from WW2 that were made of goat are generally in much better shape than their horsehide counterparts. Now with that being said, there’s no accounting for taste. Horsehide is a nice leather.

I sure agree with that Rundquist. I would have never believed that I would love this jacket so much (especially if you see G&B's crappy website pics) The goat is tough and looks awesome.

Heh.

As with most things, my poverty, but not my will, consents... So I'll be ordering a Todd's Standard as soon as they are up and around again. They certianly sound like nice jackets for the price.

Beyond that, I simply don't know enough about the vendors (or, I guess the movies) to judge properly. My gut instinct at the moment is that a HH Wested represents a great compromise between accuracy and durability, but we'll see what I think when I've spent more time delving through the archives.

I totally agree. I never said Todd's were made better. I know Flightsuits through you and your ever-growing collection of jackets. I've seen tons of their offerings and know their quality is second to none. I LOVE my Expedition and am in awe of the various A2s, G1s, Expeditions etc. I've seen in your collection! I just like the look of my Standard. It looks like the screen used hero jacket. You're right, I've never handled a Todd's Custom but if it's like my Standard, but better, I'm sold. Doesn't mean I don't dig my Expo. It's just a different jacket.

What I said about a real-life adventurer wearing a FS still stands. It's bullet proof and an excellent product.

If i was forced (at gun point!) to pick out my faviourite jacket out of the three Wested's i own. ROTLA Goat, TOD cow or LC Horsehide it would be the Horsehide. The natural weathered look and feel of the leather is just that little bit better than the other two. It's heavier weight is not marred by the suppleness of the skin used.
