Whip cracking in Cold Temps?

Hello All. I just got a new whip recently and will be new to "cracking". Being anxious work with it, I wondered if cracking outside in cold tempertures is detrimental to the whip leather?

I crack my leather whips in cold weather all the time. The main thing is that the temperature should be below freezing so the snow won't melt on the leather. It's also good to watch out for ice, or really hard/old snow, which can scuff the leather a little bit.

I gotta agree with Adam here. Nothing wrong with cracking in the snow, but watch out about getting your whips wet and avoid dragging them through that coarse, icy stuff!

My first nice whip was a Strain Lonestar in Brandy. I got in in December, and was ITCHING to try it out. So, I took it out after several inches of snow had fallen, started to thaw and then re-froze, so it was good and icy.

Scratched up the finish pretty bad. Nothing a little conditioner and a lint free cloth couldn't buff out, but ice is about as bad as sand and gravel, with the added pain of being wet. So, just take some extra time to clean it up afterward, and you got no worries!
