Authentic lamb or pre-distressed cow hide?
This is only my second post but have been lurking around for some time now.
I'm going to order my first Wested soon, I have been reading alot about the different types of hides. I know that the autentic lamb is SA but I like how the pre-distressed cow hide looks. I was wondering if I could get an opinion on the cow vs. the lamb and is it worth it to get the lamb and distress it your self.
Thanks

Depends on how you plan on 'using' the jacket.
If you're looking for strong leather right out of the box, go cowhide. If you're looking for a good jacket for 'urban adventure', either one will work perfectly.
If you're wanting pre-distressed, I'd just go with the pre-distressed cowhide and be done with it.

Well what climate do you live in? If it's cold, go cow, if warm, then lamb. Also the type of environment should be a factor as well - lamb isn't noted for being really resilient (that's why they chose it for the film - it would be easy to distress) so if you're expecting to be outdoors a lot, cow is the better choice.
If I had to choose though, I'd forgo both of them in favor of goat. Tough as nails, and quite nice looking too. :junior: -IJ

To tell you the truth, I find the hide Wested not quite as warm as my lamb US Wings A2. Even though the hide is thicker, I think having open sleeves and bottom makes a big difference.Nobody wrote:Thanks guys for the feedback.
I live in Southern California, so it doesnt get too cold here. Does Wested still offer goat?
I saw your post RockBottom, That's what made me interested in the pre-distressed cow hide

Me? I just selected "predistressed hide" from the pull down menu.Nobody wrote:The novapelle does not seem to be an option on the site. Did you call to drder that jacket? Is that a standard off the rack hide?
Of course, to an American, the word "hide" can mean the skin of anything so for all I know, it's made from Bulgarian beggars.
You probably know this, but you can get to leather samples by going to http://www.indyjacket.co.uk/home.html, selecting the "sizing" link then the link entitled "click here to view samples."

Pretty sure they'd only do that on a custom. I'd put Novapelle in the "extras" box.Nobody wrote:The novapelle does not seem to be an option on the site. Did you call to drder that jacket? Is that a standard off the rack hide?
From what RB said they might be using that in preference to the old predistressed, but I wouldn't risk the ambiguity.
