Indy's Jacket Looks Like a U.S. Wings!

Post by Texas Raider »

In this pic, the jacket looks just like the U.S. Wings jacket I had. Not THE same one I had, just a U.S. Wings jacket. Same color, same sleeves, I liked that jacket, but as far as a REAL accurate Indy jacket, that just didn't cut the mustard.

It looks like the U.S. Wings in the middle of these three-

The @#$% about this jacket is that it looks to be amost the same color as the pants whereas in raiders it looked almost black and even when it was all covered in dust it was still obvious that it was different color than the pants.

That is exactly what I have been saying! I have a Wings jacket in the CB section that is pretty much dead on to the jacket in the Vanity Fair photos...

Plus, I heard from a little birdie, that the new jacket WAS copied from an older US Wings jacket! Don't know if that part is true, but it sure does look the same to me....

No, it was not copied from a Wings jacket, and I was told by a BIG birdie!

I do agree it sure looks like a Wings jacket at first blush.

What, the Indygear fashion police are not happy with the new jacket? Not enough contrast in between browns? Good heavens, my life is over! :whip:
The skin does look like a US Wings vintage cowhide for sure in the picture (Wings owners should be happy). Of course everything looks “brown” on the cover of the magazine. Look at the actors’ skin tone. The distressing job on the LC jacket that was presented on the famous Premier magazine cover looked terrible (not that the CS jacket looks terrible on the cover), yet on film it was fine. You lose detail on film. Who knows how it will look on screen in the final film.

I picked up a copy of the VF on Friday...and went and left it in my friend's car all weekend! ](*,)

so since tonight I am working til 1AM, I grabbed the magazine, threw on my Wested pre-d cowhide, and here I am! I find that the cover jacket does look a lot like the pre-D Wested, but at this point, i suppose 10 of us could see the same pic, and all have a difference of opinion as to which manufacturer/hide it looks like.

US Wings or not - I think Ford is wearing a very screen accurate jacket in that picture.

I like the new jacket. But I understand that change is hard for some people.

Well, the more I look at the comparison photos above, for anyone who can't afford the actual jackets (count me in that number), it sure looks like we have a winner for a substitute if you're looking for an Indy IV jacket to put in your closet! :D

Can somebody shrink down the picture that my link goes to? I really want to have them side by side to show how close the two jackets are. The Wings really is close, as Michaelson says..

Now you really can see the similarity. I wish I had posed like that when I had the jacket. (sold a while back).

Just keep in mind that the Vanity Fair cover is not accurate for color. Look at the difference in skin tone between Texas Raider and Harry. Look at the difference between the previous CS pics and the magazine cover. Cheers

PS – I’m not trying to take anything away from the US Wings jacket. It does look like the one on the cover.

Good points rundquist. And I might add that I hope US Wings makes a killing off selling jackets because of the new movie. The jacket looks like theirs and they should have been a serious contender for the contract (sorry, not to start that up again - just sayin'). It would be poetic justice for a supplier that's always been in the Indy game and has worked with the real fans and continues to, to thrive because of it, JMHO.

The new jacket looks quite dark in those two movie scene photos. I'm liking it more every day. Hmm, I may just hold out, save up, and make that my first proper Indy jacket.

I believe that the reason for the vanity fair jacket color looking like that is mainly because of the lighting used in the shot and the editing of the photo itself. If you just look at the color of their faces you can tell that the colors are all off. The photo looks as though they tried to make it look aged-ish (yes I said aged-ish) by taking out some of the reds and putting in more yellow/oranges/browns. Not to mention that it all of the highlights are very white which says that the lights are very bright. The contrast between the blacks and whites are very high. aswell.

I don't think the color of the jacket in this photo is accurate at all to the actual color of the jacket. For example, as other people have stated, if you look at the other pics of Indy 4, his jacket is a lot darker.

...I think I might be rambling on...lol

Just my two cents from a Computer Graphics (and what not) guys perspective. :)

Color aside, the Vanity Fair shot highlights the mottled appearance that suggests predistressed leather, as in TR’s cowhide. Also, the KOTCS jacket looks as though the sleeves are baggier or less fitted than in all the other movies, and it may have larger arm holes comparable to the Wings jacket.
