Whip clip - fixed or slide?

Post by IndyFrench »

Hey everyone,

This isn't a question of SA or Raiders vs. Indiana Jones and the Fill in The Blank - This is a question of taste and preference.

What is your preference - a fixed whip holder or a slide whip holder? Why?

Personally, I've always liked mine fixed on the side, and I've always kept my whip in the what I've dubbed "fake snake" position - the way it is neatly and tightly coiled in the Well of Souls when Marion thinks it's a snake and burns Indy (with the handle high and facing forward within easy reach). However, I've seen that many people wear it with the handle hanging down the leg.

So I guess there are two questions here - Fixed or slide and Handle High or Handle Low?

Mine has both options. It has a hidden snap to wear fixed (in two different locations) or leave it loose to slide.

I like the handle up high, and the whip clipped to the side of my left hip. The way my whip holder setup works, the whip is less likely to slip out this way. And besides that, it's easier to quickly remove from my belt if the handle is pointed out instead of down - I just reach across my front with my right hand to grab the handle while unclipping the holder with my left hand.

:-k I usually like my holder to slide, and let the whip handle hang down. But as you guys know, that's not the most practical thing to do - I really only do this for when I'm showing off the gear. If I know I'll be moving / walking around a lot, I'll do the "fake snake." I keep the whip holder loose though so that I can adjust the whip's position - either LC style where he's got it on the front of his thigh "Don't worry, this is kiddie play" or Raiders style where he's got it under the MkVII.
