I need help

Post by ST »

I'm looking to buy a whip the problem is that I'm not sure which whip to get. I have saved up the money for a DM, but now I've been hearing a few, not so good reviews on his whips. Now I can't decide between a JS, PN, or a BDC whip. The thing is Mr. Morgan probably won't be making whips as long as the other whipmakers. What do you guys think I should do?

Go for the Morgan. Even if it doesn't turn out to be a great whip, it is a collector's item, and as you said, he won't be in the business much longer. :junior: -IJ

Interesting dilemma. While the BDC (or the others) are fantastic looking whips, the DM has the collector's appeal to it, as well as the prestige. I really like the look of the BDCs, personally, but you could get a KoTCS whip from the guys who made those. Their names escape me... I was thinking Strain and Terry, but I'm not positive about Joe.

This is a tough one. It all comes down to what is most important to you the collectible factor or an excellent and functional whip. I own a Morgan, Strain and Del Carpio and the Morgan is definitely not the quality of the other two. That being said I would never sell it because of the nostalgia associated with it. Ponder long but not too long.

Yeah - in DM's defense, I have cracked a few 10' Morgans, which I've really enjoyed. I can't speak for his current offerings, but if somebody had an extra one they wanted to give away, I'd be one of the first to raise my hand, for sure *hint hint anybody*.

For me, the DM is the way to go. I got my 10ft DM around the same time as Indiana G last year, and I feel like an itch that I've had for 26 years has finally been scratched. It's the whip I always dreamed of having, and I get lots of enjoyment every time I use it.

I can't really speak for the other whip brands as I've only handled my DM, although they do look pretty from the images posted here. But, IMO, the DM has a rugged, cruel appearance that seems to have been airbrushed out of some other brands' neater interpretations. To me, the DM conveys the no-nonsense ruthlessness that you sense when Indy disarms Barranca at the beginning of Raiders. You just know it was meant to be used and that it's built to last a long time.

I would say to get the David Morgan whip. You just don't know how long he will be making them. If you get it and some where down the line you don't wan't it any more it will be very easy to resale it. You most likely won't want to but you could if you wanted. If you don't wan't to lay out the dollars, I would highly sugest a Pagey whip.
