Need help for a jacket decision

Post by Indiana Max »

Guys, for a long time now, I´m thinking of a new jacket.
I have two Wested, one Raiders and one LC. The problem is, I´m going to East Africa this year and those I have are both a bit to large, just to wear them with a T-shirt, you know, tropical climate. They´re perfect for "cold" Europe, but I want a jacket, which fits perfectly without any sweater or strata of clothes under it.

Firstly I thought of a Todd´s Standard in S, but I´m not longer sure how to decide :-k I don´t want to pay the custom version and the more I deliberate
about what kind of jacket I should choose, the more I get confused ](*,)

I need the professional opions from all of you :-k

Yes webhead, I thought about the cotton version, but now I know that I would like to go with leather and it should also be an Indy jacket

Thing is, the cotton Wested IS an Indy jacket, made from the same patterns as the standard Raiders jacket, and it's machine washable. Something to consider since you'll be on the road and in a hot area.

A great compromise, as though you want to keep 'adventure' like in your travel, you need a bit of reality to kick in as well. Cotton breathes, you can wash it when required, and in this case it IS an Indy jacket just made in a different material if purchased from Wested.

I agree with what these guys are saying, I can't wear my leather jackets much over 70degree F, so cotton would definately work better than leather IMHO. If you must go with leather though, then get the standard $150 jacket from Todd's, it's advantage is it's super lightweight.

the todd's standard will give you the advantage of a light leather, but the poly lining will be almost as hot as a regular leather jacket in the heat......do you really need a leather jacket in africa?

i took my wested goat to jamaica and that never left the hotel room.

i would go the cotton route for sure. i wanted to mate my akubra to the wested in jamaica....really wanted to.....but i was sweating enough, even in the evenings.

You should get it quickly too, as it's an 'off the rack' item.

Just a FYI, I bought the Todd's standard. I will probably get to wear it twice here in south Florida this winter. 70 is still a bit warm for it. It is very light though, and will keep the bugs off of you down here in the 'glades.
