Shearling Adventure Jacket
The perfect jacket for those in the far north:
And when it gets really cold, you can stand up the collar and button it closed:
This one is cowhide with a genuine wool shearling collar, cuffs and trim. It is lined in a matching cotton fleece.
Kind regards,
Magnoli

It's an interesting one. There's something about the first two pictures that makes it resemble a fancy ladies jacket to me. Perhaps it's the presence of fur at the bottom and on the cuffs, the rounded, puffy shape of said fur, the gold colour of the fur, or the combination of golden fur with a soft, shiny leather. I'm not sure. Somehow it looks much more masculine in the picture with the bag. But I think possessing rugged facial features might be a requirement for pulling off this particular look consistently, at least until the leather becomes more distressed looking. JMO, of course.

How about changeing the fur color to dark brown or rust?
Knit cuffs inside the sleeves are more practical, warmer and looking better. And the shearling schould not be visible in the vaist area of the jacket either. The problem is that the sherling is not as durable as leather and diggin in the dirt will damage it.

Bink, while I agree that the shearling locations match, the overall impression is different. This is probably because the shearling and leather in your example are more defined and tougher looking. Perhaps, with time, Magnoli's shearling and leather will start to resemble those in the WWII jacket, but at the moment it all looks a bit too boutiquey - shiny, soft and luxurious, like it is meant to caress and pamper the wearer, rather than provide protection from harsh elements. I'm also not sure shearling works well on pointy collars - it seems more at home on the rounded collars of your example. But, then again, maybe time and a bit of distressing is all the jacket needs to give it the rough and tumble adventurer look. Again, JMHO.binkmeisterRick wrote:LC, here's an original WWII jacket. magnoli is dead on with his shearling accents.

I'm sure when the WWII jacket was new, it looked, well, new! I think a couple good adventures in Magnoli's jacket will begin to give his shearling jacket the character you hope for. It's hard to judge a jacket when it's new here because so many of us want a jacket that's already broken in and full of character. As for a pointy fur collar, here's a sherling vintage jacket of mine with a mutton collar that's pointy. Give Magnoli's time, and it'll have the type of character you're looking for.

Nice B-3, Bink!binkmeisterRick wrote:
I've been looking at Aero Leather's version of the Irvin. I was going to go for Aviation Leathercraft, but they offer the later style with the seams. I like Aero's pre-war version. A friend of mine just got one from Flight Jackets (in New York?). She likes the darker colour vs. the Aero, and she opted for the pockets because her Avirex B-3 only has the traditional map pocket and she wants someplace to put her hands.Jens wrote:Yes, Aero's version looks great! But I am looking more into an Irvin right know ... well, I would if I had the money, that means.
Both of us want the RAF boots, by the way. Aero have free shipping on orders over £350, so if we order them together and get something else we can save a hundred bucks. (Less shipping from here down to L.A. when they arrive.)

Hm. I wonder if the price went up? I could have sworn that two pair were less than the £350 free shipping minimum.Last Crusader wrote: http://www.aeroleatherclothing.com/weba ... prodid=562
Incidentally, there's a cat in Washington state who makes them, only his are custom made to your measurements.
Sorry for the hijack.
ETA: My friend just sent me a link to NOS A-1 (A-6A) flying boots.
I've always thought that Indy would have worn the jacket that Gary Cooper wore through out "For Whom the Bell Tolls". Actually Cooper looks very Indy in that movie, brown fedora, very similar shirt, etc. Does anyone know what jacket Cooper was actually wearing? It's alot like an Irvin or B3 etc.
here's a quick pic of it, but not a good one: http://www.amazon.com/Whom-Bell-Tolls-G ... 0783229488

I've always been a fan of the ANJ-4. Great work Magnoli, love the jacket.Last Crusader wrote:Who said that the shearling on the Indy jacket has to look like the shearling on the B-3?
I would have taken the ANJ-4 for reference. It looks much more indy without the shearling on the cuffs and waist.

Great Jacket!

i just wanted to share my reivew of mags' jacket as i posted on his site:
i'll try to snag some pics a little later onif you are a big indiana jones fan like i am, you will know that his trusty lambskin adventure jacket was not made for adventuring in sub-zero climates....(i have no idea how he managed to stay warm in nepal...lol). i was tired of wearing an overcoat over my standard indy jacket on colder days, as it's not very 'adventuresque', so i asked magnoli to construct a shearling hybrid of the jacket. this was my first leather jacket purchase from magnoli clothiers and i was a little hesitant of the sizing, design and looks.
as soon i threw it on my shoulders, i knew that magnoli hit a home run. the jacket fits perfectly based on the measurements i gave him. it is also extremely well constructed. the craftsmanship is definitely top shelf and i have enough made to measure jackets to say so with the utmost confidence. the leather is very soft, surprisingly soft for cowhide which is a bonus as i know how tough this skin is. at first glance it looks like a wwii B-6 jacket but then you notice the indiana jones attributes and nuances....thats enough for any die hard fan! the jacket is a beauty and yes....she's warm!!! this is definitely a great addition to my indiana jones collection. i will be dealing with magnoli again for more custom jackets knowing the calibre of his products.
thanks magnoli!!!!!
