Your preferred lining?
I have a Wested that I've had for about, oh, seven years or so now, and while I love the exterior of the jacket (even though it's been clawed on by a kitten, and has various other signs of wear and tear), the satin lining has just about completely disintegrated.
Anyone else had this problem? If so, did you send it back to Wested to have the lining replaced with their cotton silesia lining? And if you did, what do you think of the cotton lining?

Go with the all cotton. Much more durable. My "satan" lining was shredded within 7-8 months, but the cotton in the body has been working great for 2.5 years now! The sleeves have had their cotton for 2 years now and it is holding up wonderfully too.

Here's a silly idea... (and no, I'm not being sarcastic)
Has anyone ever tried getting a jacket made WITHOUT any lining? I for one would be interested to see how that works out, since it presumably would give the jacket a very 'weightless' drape.
Also while we're on the subject, wouldn't it be possible in such an event to add pockets on the inside of the jacket that are exactly the same as the pockets on the outside of the jacket (with flaps and all) ?
While this certainly isn't film Indy S.A., it would most certainly be video-game Indy S.A.... I was toying around with "Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb" today, and discovered that the jacket that video-game Indy wears apparently has those aforementioned pockets on the inside of his jacket
I know, it's a silly idea... But I beat you to the punch in my first sentence

Morning! Wasn't me! (Was that a before coffee post?)Michaelson wrote:KT, have you ever worn a jacket with the leather against your skin for any given time? It's not only uncomfortable after a very short time, but will abrade the heck out of your exposed skin.

Solo, I just had my satin lining replaced with a cotton one, after about 2 1/2 years the edges at the corners were just worn through, still wearable but a bit tatty. They did a great job, and although the satin is nice, the cotton is equally nice to wear. Is the cotton more durable? Probably. And in more humid areas the cotton is certainly more breathable.
However, in your situation I think it becomes expensive to ship the jacket back to the UK get it relined and shipped back. (About $120 all in). Would be much more cost effective to get someone local to do it, methinks? (At a guess $40-60).

Michaelson, I suppose a new year's resolution should be getting a new pair of glasses?
I suppose what you said makes sense though, since... well... it's a videogame after all! And that jacket is able to withstand diving into lakes, pools, rivers for indefinite amounts of time, getting shot at, getting stabbed, getting burned, and even having a grenade lobbed at it... All without shrinking, or even getting scratched! It's probably not leather we're talking about anymore, it's probably some high tech version of kevlar!
But enough about that, I've derailed this thread enough already!
Picking up on new year's resolutions, mine should follow a line taken from Star Wars: "Stay on target... STAY ON TARGET... YAAARGH!" Well, at least without the death cry at the end...

Same w/ my Wested..no problems. I have an all satin w/ my G&B and the difference I experience is that the satin glides over my clothes so the jacket moves around more. My Wested cotton lining grabs my clothes better so it doesn't move around as much on my shoulders and upper back.VP wrote:My cotton body/satin sleeves lining has held up well, no problems here.

Now, I do not own an all-satin lined Wested (mine has the cotton body), but every other leather jacket I can remember owning did. I can only recall one lining getting damaged; it was minor, required no repair (even after 10 years), and the cause remains a mystery to this day. Maybe there is an issue with the Wested all-satin, or maybe I'm just to gentle. Either way, I trust all-satin, and I find it the most comfortable. Satin may cling to your skin when wet, but cotton clings to everything else when dry!

Actually, that IS one for me this year........how did you know?Castor Dioscuri wrote:Michaelson, I suppose a new year's resolution should be getting a new pair of glasses?
The biggest problem I had with all satin lining was it's constant sliding off my shoulder when the jacket was not zipped up. I HATED that. That Wested was given away post haste!
