I think I watched Dr. No hundred times, but I never realized, that Connery had Harrisons Dinner Jacket on

I hate to burst your bubble, but Indy wore a shawl collar, not peaked lapels... personally, I'm a fan of the peaks.

Remember Spielberg saying that he always wanted to direct a bond movie? The first scene in TOD was his little ode to the Bond element of the Indy character. Also, I'm pretty sure that pic is from Goldfinger, not Dr. NO. So I suppose the title of the thread should be "Indy had 007's dinner jacket on?"

Indy most definitively had peaked lapels on his dinner jacket:

The Dr. No lapels are in the narrower 60's style, but there is a certain resemblance.

To be honest, I'm fairly certain the opening scene was a homage to Casablanca, and not James Bond...

But, I mean... come on guys... this is really stretching. Sure, Indy wore a black tie throughout the majority of The Last Crusade as well, but that doesn't mean Agent Smith was copying him... The white dinner jacket was a fairly commonplace garment back in the day, and wearing one to a nightclub was the equivalent of wearing a tux to... prom. Just because we have Indy sporting one doesn't mean everyone who wears one is imitating Indy. Same thing for the fedora, or leather jacket...

I'm not attacking anybody in particular, this is just my opinion after having read so many posts of late that go along the lines of "...gee, wonder where they got that idea?"

I tend to agree that a lot of people seem to be noticing things in other shows that remind them of stuff in the Indy films but in this particular case I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't a little wink to Bond, maybe this one movie in particular.

We all know George had Bond in mind when he created Indy and they even got Sean to play his father. It's not that far of a stretch to see the connection here with the beginning of TOD.

I agree with Harry. I doubt they had that particular scene or dinner jacket in mind, but it's perfectly reasonable to think that the idea of Indy wearing a tux was something of a throwback to Bond...although I wouldn't rule out Casablanca. :junior: -IJ

Yes. I also believe the keyword here is "30's adventure serial". Exotic locations equals white dinner jacket, among other things...

Sorry about that... I would have sworn it wasn't peaked lapels... Bogart had the shawl lapels in Casablanca. My mistake.

According to the original making of ToD documentary from 1984, that scene came to be at Lucas' insistence. He had envisioned Indy as more of a champagne hero in the Bond vein rather than the rumpled, scruffy character he became.
